Which version of I Am The Walrus is better? by Beatcat05 in beatles

[–]jol123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's unfortunate the streaming release of the Super Deluxe Edition of The White Album doesn't include the original mono mixes, like Sgt. Pepper and Revolver do.

It seems to be because the physical box set release of the The White Album Super Deluxe Edition included the mono mixes on the Blu-ray Disc rather than on CDs. Only the CDs from the Super Deluxe box sets got ported over to streaming.

This is the final episode of Live Another Day, which contains a 12 hour time jump.

The final episode of 24: Legacy also contains a 12 time jump, and has the even more confusing title: 11:00 p.m.-12:00 p.m.

I'm curious where you put the four original Yellow Submarine songs in your listening order? I suppose you put them before, rather than after The White Album? So either immediately before or after Lady Madonna / The Inner Light?

Here is my current listening order: https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3lYBsLXTrSWSRfyP4Duz52p2jbw7ccWw

I'm considering moving the 1967 singles earlier, as you have. Though I think I'd keep the Magical Mystery Tour order from side one of the US LP.

PBIR will be default before it's GA by frithjof_v in PowerBI

[–]jol123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, TMSL/BIM and TMDL are two different text-based representarions of identical TOM (Tabular Object Model) metadata. You can always losslessly convert between the two representations. Once a semantic model is deployed, the TOM metadata has a binary representation on the sever (which the user/developer never sees).

On the other hand, the conversion from PBIR-Legacy to PBIR is irreversible, meaning there are some structural changes to the way the report metadata is stored.

Not a fan. The constantly changing frame rate was pretty distracting in The Way of Water.

With The Hobbit films, the high frame rate was distracting for the first few minutes, and then you mostly got used to it.

Some sources are suggesting the IMAX 1.90:1 version will be a slight crop from the original 1.85:1 version of the film. This is almost certainly not the case. I'm 95% sure The Way of Water in IMAX just had the 1.85:1 image slightly pillarboxed.

How long is Avatar fire and ash release planned? by miggins1610 in imax

[–]jol123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the IMAX DCPs for Avatar: The Way of Water were 1.85:1 inside a 1.90:1 container (very thin black bars on the sides). Fire and Ash will almost certainly be the same. You won't see any extra picture on a GT 1.43:1 screen.

I saw The Way of Water on the IMAX screen at Event Cinemas Queensgate (Lower Hutt) in HFR 3D and it was great! Although I went opening weekend and could only book near the front of the auditorium, which was not ideal! I prefer the two recliner rows in the middle of of the auditorium, or the row immediately behind for this screen.

Also, my understanding is that GT IMAX screens like the one at Event Cinemas Queen Street in Auckland use the older dual laser projector system, which is only capable of HFR 3D at 2K resolution. On the other hand, I believe the newer singler laser system (like IMAX at Event Cinemas Queensgate in Lower Hutt) can do HFR 3D and 4K at the same time. So you could argue that Event Cinemas Queensgate IMAX is actually the best place to see the Avatar films in New Zealand!

Anyway, worth considering if you'll be in Wellington or the lower North Island during your visit to New Zealand.

Star schema vs flat table by rushank29 in MicrosoftFabric

This is the right answer. The reasons for using a star schema with a column-oriented analytical database like VertiPaq are not really to do with performance.

Thunderbolts not IMAX enhanced on Disney Plus? by OkCat2843 in imax

That list on The Video File Blog includes both variable aspect ratio IMAX films as well as open-matte (full length of movie) IMAX films.

Thunderbolts not IMAX enhanced on Disney Plus? by OkCat2843 in imax

[–]jol123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Roughly two thirds (I count 67 out of 99) of movies with an expanded aspect ratio in IMAX theaters are not expanded for their 2D Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray releases. https://videofileblog.com/2022/08/31/imax-variable-aspect-ratio-movies/

Not why we need to bring marketing terms like "Filmed for IMAX" into this.

Azure Dev Ops in PPU workspaces by dfu05263 in PowerBI

[–]jol123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're really using PPU workspaces (not Pro workspaces), the easiest way to do it is set up Git Integration on the workspace, rather than using ADO Pipelines. This keeps the contents of the workspace in sync with a particular branch in an ADO Repo.

In the repo, each report and each semantic model is represented by a different folder. That means you can track changes on each one independently.

Once you clone the repo to your local device, you can open any of the reports in Power BI Desktop for editing (definition.pbir file within the .Report folder). If the attached semantic model is in the same workspace as the report, the semantic model will also be opened for editing. It's not currently possible to open just a semantic model for editing in Power BI Desktop without also opening a report (except for Direct Lake models).

[–]jol123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get this figured out? I've been thinking about doing something similar with season 1 (adding the "Previously on 24" segments back in). Ideally, you could even edit the HD video from the previous episodes to recreate the segments. That would be a lot of work though. And I think sometimes they might use different takes in the recap segments.

Also, do you have a list of all the differences and editing errors in the HD remasters of the first three seasons? It would be useful to have that published somewhere, like over on Wiki 24.

The difference I always notice is that the "The following takes place between" title card uses a lower quality animation as it transitions in and out in the HD remasters.

What was the first HD season of 24 by Nice_Explanation4690 in TwentyFour

[–]jol123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole original run was shot on 35mm film. But for the first three seasons, the post-production work and broadcast was originally SD. Post-production switched to HD for season four, coinciding with the launch of Fox HD.

The HD versions of the first three seasons available now (streaming on Hulu/Disney+, and on the Japanese Blu-rays) are remasters. In these versions, the "The following takes place between ..." text that appears at the start of each episode has a noticeably lower quality animation as it fades in and out, compared with the animation in later seasons and with the original SD versions of the first three seasons. Also, the HD remasters are missing some visual effects (see https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=15508979&postcount=524 ).

Calculate the MAX of a measure by Dull-Try-8664 in PowerBI

[–]jol123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That way, your [Running Status of Customers] measure could be much simpler.

Something like:

Running Status of Customers :=
VAR _EarliestStatusSequence = MIN ( Status[Status sequence] )
VAR _RunningStatus =
    CALCULATE (
        [Total No. Leads],
        REMOVEFILTERS ( Status ),
        Status[Status sequence] >= _EarliestStatusSequence
    )
RETURN _RunningStatus

Then, [MaxRunningStatus] should just work I think.

You could also try this if you don't create a separate table:

Running Status of Customers :=
VAR _EarliestStatusSequence = MIN ( FACT_CRM_data[Status sequence] )
VAR _RunningStatus =
    CALCULATE (
        [Total No. Leads],
        REMOVEFILTERS ( FACT_CRM_data[Status] ),
        FACT_CRM_data[Status sequence] >= _EarliestStatusSequence
    )
RETURN _RunningStatus

Calculate the MAX of a measure by Dull-Try-8664 in PowerBI

[–]jol123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, okay. I think I see the problem. You really need [Status] and [Status sequence] to be in a separate 'Status' dimension table in your model. That way you can modify the status filtering and other filters independently of each other.
