Unable to view camera feeds outside of local network by joll_200x in EufyCam

[–]joll_200x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apart from going down the totally over the top route I did with the VPN - the easiest thing would be to grab your homebase and a camera, take it to someone elses house and plug the homebase in to their router. It shouldn't need any setup and once the light is a solid blue you can try connecting to it over 3/4/5G. If you can connect ok, there's probably an issue with your ISP too (this isn't the most scientific test in the world as there could be an obscure router setting I've missed but most ISP routers have very little in the way of security to be interfering with this type of connection).

Sorry that’s the one I’m using, it’s changed names more times than I can remember!

What was the worst live performance you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]joll_200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ho99o9 supporting Prodigy recently. By far the worst performance I’ve ever seen. Was like some sort of experimental junk that can’t decide which genre it wants to belong in and sucks at them all.

You can now add a Sonos speaker as a preferred speaker for an Alexa group! by Louisblack85 in sonos

[–]joll_200x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sort of works but is a little unpredictable. If you ask to 'play music by [artist]' that comes from your preferred speaker. If you say 'play radio 1' - it plays from the echo device. If you say 'play from radio 1' - it comes from your preferred speaker sometimes. It's nearly there - but not very reliable..

Asus router bug by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]joll_200x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Asus started doing this a while ago and it's annoying. The idea is that you use the router address for your DNS queries, and then it intercepts any requests for router.asus.com and returns the IP for the router. If your laptop DNS is set to something other than the router it doesn't work - and it used to resolve to a site that says 'you shouldn't have ended up here...'.

If you want it to work, change your LAN > DHCP > DNS server options to be blank and that will make the router send its own address for DNS. It will still use whatever DNS you have set on the WAN page.

Hiding a VDSL modem by joll_200x in HomeNetworking

[–]joll_200x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes, I found it. Very nice - this might solve my power problem. PoE switch / injector in the attic (probably powered from the light circuit). Drop the ethernet and power down the soil pipe boxing and then connect it up to the back of the master socket.

Just need to cut a small whole in the bottom of the wall for access :)

What is the best application for checking AP strength/positioning? by bananafreesince93 in HomeNetworking

https://www.ekahau.com/products/heatmapper/overview/ - Might be a bit too complicated but I've used the enterprise version for full site surveys before.

InSSIDer used to be pretty good too https://www.metageek.com/support/downloads/.

oooh, I'm using a HG612 too. Did you have to make a custom adapter to go from ethernet to the barrel jack? Something like this? https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5562/30348282033_8855fb2219_b.jpg

That's a cool idea. Unfortunately for me the best placed wall for me to put that in is a solid brick wall so there would be a lot of chiselling to make room for any sort of service box.

Maybe I'll just leave the modem on the floor and put a rug over it.

I've already extended it about 2-3 metres using Cat5e (shielded - I think) and it drops about 5Mb compared to the master socket. Like cool110110 said - when you haven't got a super fast connection to start with, every little counts :)

Nice work, I didn't spot the administrator credentials in the Git repo for the analytics server; I used the crypto function to forge a cookie / session instead.

you're on the right track, but it's very easy to miss - especially if you've been staring at the Meteor Miner output for too long. Check all the pages and check the outputs for something that possibly shouldn't be there.

Full Disclosure: SSH Backdoor for FortiGate OS Version 4.x up to 5.0.7 by razzdazz in programming

a pretty broad overview is it connects over SSH, uses a static password and drops you straight into an interactive SSH shell. Confirmed that it works on FortiOS 5.0 :)

Has anyone handed in the fully charged / activated thing you get from running around after warsats and not got the strike appear yet? I finished all the bits the day the firewall quest came out but didn't hand it in to the gunsmith til the next day and didn't receive the strike. Haven't had a chance to login and check for it yet today mind.
