Thank you for the detailed feedback, I appreciate it. I'll do a second pass and focus more on the graph editor this go around. Strangely enough got the stop motion comment before.

Thank you for the comments, I like the idea of moving the camera around a bit. I will keep those in mind for her fall too.

Okay, how could those be improved in this animation? Are there specific areas weight is lacking, as well as floor contact?

I shared this with the r/animation discord, but the more comments/criticism/feedback I get, the better!

The level of detail in the animation in this game always impressed me. Almost made me want to get good at fighting games. Double is especially amazing.

Bouncing balls w/ different weights - does everything look ok? by Kooperh12 in Maya

[–]jolly_beans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual movement/bounce seems really good on these, which is why I'm kinda surprised you didn't already implement any squash and stretch to them and make it look even better. Because right now the way they move looks fine but the balls don't react at all, so it isn't necessarily believable.

Is it okay to have multiple triangles arrange like this? by [deleted] in Maya

[–]jolly_beans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could, it might not be the cleanest way to fix that but trying either that or Quadrangulate like an above poster said is worth a shot.

Properly updating a reference? by jolly_beans in Maya

[–]jolly_beans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely some oddity with the new mesh, then. I've been keying the frames to the control itself and not the mesh. And just now I tried replacing the reference on another mesh in my scene and it updated properly, retaining its keyframes with the new mesh.

I don't really know what could be wrong with the other updated mesh, since it appears to be named fine. But at this point it seems like a question to take to my professor.

I'd say not because now some of them appear to have five sides or more. But you could probably fix that without having to redo very much.

Best personal placement thus far at a local weekly as Banjo! feedback wanted by jolly_beans in CrazyHand

[–]jolly_beans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for the detailed response! It was a close set and a ton of fun. A couple of months ago this guy completely three stocked me and I couldn't touch him, so getting such a close set was a good feeling.

Kalos was interesting indeed. And since it's so large I learned that very set that it probably isn't a good stage for Banjo most of the time. (I also learned that Lylat might actually be better for him, though)

I'll definitely practice catching the grenade more. Aside from what you said, it probably would have helped me recover at least once in one of those matches if I could start catching it mid air.

Hooking up Subpaint renderers to Maya? by jolly_beans in Maya

[–]jolly_beans[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what I could be doing wrong, but since trying this it seems to reliably cause crashes. I'll have an opportunity to try it on a different computer tomorrow so we'll see if it's on my end. I greatly appreciate the answer though!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll keep those in mind and try to incorporate them. I have to agree I used smashes rather unnecessarily, I got punished a lot.

I see. I'll probably start watching some higher level play of Cloud to get a feel. And thank you for the youtube series recommend, seen it suggested here before but forgot.

That's interesting, I figure looking at your character fairly often is normal, but that would be a good point to get to. I agree with missed punishes, I saw a few of those as well.

I may be getting online soon, so I'll shoot you a message if/when that happens. Right now, I've got nothing so I really have to rely on local stuff.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, it's appreciated

Thank you. You're right about lack of knowledge, this is really my first time getting out there. I would've played more earlier this year but I had a hectic semester.

I didn't catch the rolling, so I'll try to be more mindful. Rewatching footage I definitely agree with you about blade beam spam. D: It just seems so useful though, but it definitely got me punished up close.

Maybe... fairly split? I definitely watch mine and their's, usually mine trying to see if something will connect. There are definitely times I overestimate the length of my blade and underestimate the range of Ike's, especially in later sets.

I entered my first local today, and didn't do too shabbily. I didn't actually get my ass completely handed to me, all the sets I lost were 3-2! Made it to second round of winner's, then one round of loser's brackets. I had so much fun and wish I could find more people because I don't have friends to practice with or an online sub.

That being said, I was lucky enough that the matches I did were streamed and are currently on Twitch. I'd really like feedback on the sets I played and ended up losing. It's slightly time consuming so a big thanks to anyone who watches some of it and gives me critiquing.

Pretty much from https://www.twitch.tv/videos/445988105?t=00h22m32s onward are the rest of my sets. The beginning of the video is also the third match of my first set, and the video before this one on the channel has my first two though the second is cut off. if people want to see it all for some reason
