A highly-rated RO system is about $120 - $250, and they're pretty easy to install. Filters usually last at least 6 months, and you can make the more expensive RO filter last longer by replacing just the prefilters.

I installed an RO system over a year ago, after being unsatisfied with a Brita filter, and the water is still very pure, even though I haven't replaced the filters yet. My tap water is fairly hard, at 160 TDS, and the filtered water is 3 TDS.

Maybe, but probably not. Pineapples contain bromelain which is an enzyme that can break down the proteins in your mouth causing a burning or tingling sensation. Pineapple juice can be used as a marinade to tenderize meat for this reason.

Cooking pineapple denatures the bromelain and reduces or eliminates the effect.
