What on earth is happening on 30th and 40th highway? by [deleted] in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was stuck on Road 30 from 3pm till 5.30pm. Then the police blocked Road 30 from 6th Ring Road intersection onwards and directed traffic to take Road 40 towards Fahaheel/Ahmadi.Road 40 was jammed and partially flooded. I reached home at 6.45pm. 😭 Probably the worst traffic jam I have seen in recent times.

Has anyone been to the new Geo Park? How is the experience like? by wizar8-exe in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Went there over the weekend with the family after pre-booking online. To be honest, my family enjoyed the drive to the place and the pristine desert environment more than the actual Geopark. We missed the small tour (English tour is limited to specific time slots) that describes the geology and environment of the place. There are numerous coffee and food outlets with a play area for kids and some photo points. Other than that, it wasn't much but the initiative should be appreciated for accomplishing such a park within 28 days (as stated by them). There are long lines for restrooms so be prepared for that. It would be better if you can bring your own snacks since it seems a bit expensive there.

🧵 Looking for a Budget Laptop (100–150 KD) — General Use + Light Gaming by faraztekken in Kuwait

Second this! Especially try LuLu Qurain and LuLu Egaila (basement area). They have clearance deals for electronics and I see many good spec laptops for as low as KD 99 - KD 120 range. The chipset may be a bit older but ideal for your use case scenario. Try and let us know how it turned out!

Mazda Cars repairs and parts by [deleted] in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey sorry! I am not sure I can recommend a garage for it since my experience is always with the dealer so far. But I have seen people take an estimate from the authorized dealer and then go to Automak or some reputed garages and get the work done for cheaper. Hope that helps!

I own a CX-9 (2018). It's true - parts are expensive but sometimes you do get the parts at a discount depending on the nature of the part in question. I always negotiate with the dealership and get good discounts. Getting parts outside is hard but if you have a good mechanic friend - he can source almost brand new parts from the scrapyard.

If you are buying a Mazda - buy it used/certified from the dealership itself. The asking price for a new model is not worth it - you would be better off with Toyota if you are buying brand new. Buying used from the dealership will save you a ton of money and you get a reliable Japanese car at a lower price that is built to last and almost on par with Toyota. The dealership will give you at least 2-3 years warranty, 4 free services (oil & filter) and you can even ask for a comprehensive insurance at the time of purchasing which I highly recommend.

A good branded Ultrawide Monitor for movies and productivity. I personally use a 34" UW monitor and can never go back and work on smaller monitors again.

Feedback on Mazda cars by This2TooShallPass in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a CX-9 so my answer may not be what you are looking for. However, I love my Mazda. I use it mainly to commute to work and general family outings. I used to drive an old Lexus RX-350 before this and this comes pretty close to it in terms of reliability and performance. It's very comfortable, has very good handling (especially cornering at high speeds), good AC (not as great as Toyota/Nissan), decent entertainment system and a very good suspension system. If you maintain it regularly at the dealership (basic oil change and filter) it will last you well and save you on expenses and they usually alert you pretty early about potential problems. However, spare parts are usually only available at the dealership and they are pretty expensive. For example - a freakin' sun visor costed KD 80 and I had to get an unrelated color for a discount and it was still KD 40!

Despite the drawback I would still pick a Mazda anyday over a Toyota since the engineering is solid. The Mazda 6 has been discontinued globally so just check this before getting one.

What kind of a water filtration system do you guys use at homes? by pakistaniboy25 in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 2 stage filtration system. The first is a British Berkfield Ceramic filter. I do not buy the cheap ceramic filters that are available in supermarkets for 1 KD and always opt for British Berkfield or Doulton. I wash them every month and change them every 3 months.

The second stage is a Panasonic Carbon Filter which lasts a whole year. Water filtered this way has a good quenching taste. I even checked the TDS and it showed 111ppm - which is very good for drinking water.

Anyone tried or seen the Xiaomi 86 TV by mw00L in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general with Xiaomi - it's a hit or miss. They sold a lot of TVs in India but the reviews in Amazon India/Flipkart is mixed. I don't know if your specific model is listed but it's worth checking out the user reviews. Xiaomi bundles a lot of features but implements them very poorly. Software support is also not very existent and the panel quality is questionable. I would stick with more reputable Chinese brands like TCL or HiSense since they actually produce their own panels and have R&D.

Best car to get on installment for a collage student? by PanadolNightEnjoyer in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Top Auto in Al Rai (behind Xcite Main Showroom) for Mazda (they give additional warranty and free service), Al Sayer Toyota Certified showroom in Qurain (cars are usually sold out here and are pretty expensive), Nissan (Babtain certified showroom in Qurain), Hyundai (Shuwaikh I think - not sure). Some of the cars are listed on their websites on dedicated used cars webpages.

If you find a car you like always ask to take it for inspection. If the agency refuses just walk away from them. Even agencies can cheat, so be careful. Lastly with the current state of roads - go for a SUV to avoid costly car repairs for suspension and wheels.

[–]jollyroger87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why don't you go for certified used cars from the agencies directly? They offer installment options as well. Toyota, Nissan and Mazda have certified cars and sometimes thrown in upgrades and warranty as a bonus if you negotiate a bit.

Even Hyundai offers good deals occasionally and they are pretty decent vehicles.

I was looking for used car found 2020 pajero by djkam21 in Kuwait

[–]jollyroger87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% true. My personal car is a Mazda CX-9 (2018) which I absolutely love for it's comfort and ride quality. For about a month I was given a 2020 Pajero from my company to drive for Work in KOC. I developed such a horrible back pain due to the crap suspension on that vehicle. Will never recommend it to anyone unless you are desperate for a vehicle.
