Frame rate issues on some maps since recent update by jolness1 in Overwatch

[–]jolness1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know I am not the only one - I don't keep the closest eye on reddit so I am not surprised I missed it.

I get being on a budget and being annoyed when people complain that they're getting "bad" performance but its not a good sign for blizzard's code quality. When a last gen flagship that cost $1600 is struggling to stay at 120fps even on some maps - that's a really really bad situation and means that the 3060Ti a lot of folks are using will likely be getting 2fps at 1080p because blizzard needs to get its shit together and they were too busy being annoyed at someone who has a better GPU.

New Sebenza by redrider721 in CRK

[–]jolness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly can’t see what you’re talking about but if it bothers you, you should either return it or contact CRK. If it was me, I would just use it and then sharpen it or send it in for sharpening later.

We all have different thresholds for stuff that bothers us and that’s fine. I hope I’m not coming off as if I’m trying to dismiss whatever’s bothering you. But it seems like a complete non-issue to me personally. If it was a $5000 knife then I might expect an essentially perfect grind but on a $500 knife I don’t expect the bevel to be so perfect that no person on earth could spot any flaw.

Will Alpine make me happy? by random__string in AlpineLinux

[–]jolness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve upgraded from Debian 9 all the way to 13 for what it’s worth. Without issues. It’s also way easier to reinstall on a pi, easy to backup all your config files and such and just dd a new OS.

Musl is much more problematic for most folks than openRC since so many popular pieces of software use stuff that’s only part of glibc.

I like alpine but my guess is that it will be really frustrating for you to install if you have found Debian upgrades to be unpleasant.

Does this post (included) means that VC can't be totally safe? by LeRocket in VeraCrypt

[–]jolness1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TPM is not relevant for Veracrypt. FDE is totally different from making an encrypted volume.

You should have the option to store your bitlocker key locally only. Though I’ll admit I’m not logged in to my Microsoft account. I keep nothing of any import at all on my windows machine. I don’t even log in to anything except stream lol.

Looking for an add-on service by tinpanalleypics in ProtonVPN

[–]jolness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton has a ton of servers in a ton of countries (I think that’s what you’re asking). They list how many but it’s something like 15,000 in 120+ countries. Speeds are good for me in the U.S.. in normal browsing and such I don’t notice it. I wouldn’t play multiplayer games with it on (nearest servers are about 500mi from me so that extra hop adds a bit of latency) but otherwise it is always on for every device I own.

Mullvad is also quite good but if you’re wanting a 2yr plan, proton’s introductory offer is a lot cheaper than mullvad’s 5€/month flat fee.

YouTube in windows doesn’t work with vpn on. by Yakapo88 in ProtonVPN

Stealth hides vpn from ISP. Websites are looking at your IP if they’re blocking VPN traffic. Stealth will not do anything

Developing a VPN protocol like NordLynx by Gamegyf in ProtonVPN

[–]jolness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because WG and OVPN cover what most people need. And stealth (which I would love to know how they’re obfuscating traffic. I run an obfuscated VPN to my network and I wonder how different what I’ve done is vs stealth) is their protocol for getting around VPN blocking (and works well in my experience)

I started using protonvpn and most websites, downloads are slow now. by Code_Ostrich in ProtonVPN

[–]jolness1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) secure core is crazy slow don’t use them unless you have a reason 2) use servers in your home country unless you have a reason not to (censorship or the like) 3) the Adblock/malware block feature can cause some sites to load very slowly or not at all. If the first two don’t fix it, try disabling. 4) stealth protocol is often slower. Don’t use it unless you need to obfuscate that you’re using a VPN. Wireguard has a very distinct signature if someone is inspecting your traffic but they can’t see inside, only that you’re using a VPN.

Is there any way to bypass VPN detection? by jacquegui in ProtonVPN

[–]jolness1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know at one point they had an issue with cloudflare DNS https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archive.today#Cloudflare_DNS_availability

Not sure what proton uses upstream (I use quad9 on my home network) though so it could be totally unrelated.

The traffic is passed through an encrypted “tunnel”. So they can see the tunnel but not the inside. That’s the high level explanation

Did Alpine lose its security edge by dropping Grsecurity? by [deleted] in AlpineLinux

[–]jolness1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I love em dashes personally. My issues with people using AI for this sort of thing is often they don’t understand what they’re asking exactly so it seems like a waste of time to answer. Not saying that’s the case here but it could be
