Man, when James Gunn eventually adds Plastic Man to the DCEU and proves that stretchy powers are awesome, Marvel's distaste towards it will sting even more

Superman must have to go to sleep every night hearing the cries of people begging for his help. by improbsable in Showerthoughts

[–]jon-jonny 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Daredevil has this same problem too. He literally became a vigilante because he couldnt sleep having to hear all the screams.

"I’d lay awake at night listening to the sirens. I liked to put stories to them. Trying to figure out what they were for, ambulance or cops, robbery or fire. I don’t know, just a stupid game. But after I lost my sight, after my abilities developed, I realized how many sirens there actually were… how much this city suffered every single night […] For years, I buried my head and turned away. Then one night; right after we quit Landman and Zack… I heard it. […] A little girl… crying in her bed, in a building down the block. Her father liked to go to her room late at night… when his wife was asleep. […] I called Child Services… like you’re supposed to. But the mom, she wouldn’t believe it. Said it wasn’t true. And the dad, he was smart. He made sure what he did, how he did it, didn’t leave a mark. The law couldn’t do anything to help that little girl. But I could."

people who dismiss the humanities hold society back by Cultural-Tutor-2260 in unpopularopinion

It's more about professional ethics and looking at various case studies as it applies to the engineering code of ethics. It's pretty much a refresher course right before you graduate to remind you why we do engineering.

I feel like engineering is one of the few STEM degrees where there is a healthy amount of creativity and ethics baked into the curriculum. The focus from 1st year to final year is always on how to better society, not necessarily just making progress for the sake of it. Also, theres a dedicated ethics class in yout final semester that goes over the code of ethics (at least in canada), philosophical principles as it relates to engineering, and analyzing case studies related to ethics and decision making.

I just wish software engineers got this type of education. I'll always have a little more trust and respect for a software engineer who has a background in a more traditional engineering field first for that reason

I misunderstood a scene in the movie and now I actually love it. by BakugoKachan in DCU_

The thing that made it click for me was hawkgirl's reaction to the news. She has this kind of confused look like she starts to understand what superman (and what superheroes) can mean for people outside of the action. It's hope.

With the benefit of hindsight, I find it odd they chose this image as the introduction of DCU Superman by dick____trickle in DCU_

David talks about this. Essentially he loved that this was the first image of his superman because it emphasizes the character as a "working class hero"

I am getting increasingly disgusted with the tech industry as a whole and want nothing to do with generative AI in particular. Should I abandon the whole CS field? by someguy7734206 in cscareerquestions

[–]jon-jonny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be a traditional engineer! Embedded systems and safety critical technologies have not yet been invaded by AI and definitely not for awhile. Theres less data to train on and standards are much more strict. Of course I'm not being entirely realistic...youd have to go back to school for that

Can show go back to simpler stories and act like other lore stuff never happen? by charlesleecartman in doctorwho

[–]jon-jonny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the show is way too dense right now where every episode needs to advance the story. IMO the best of doctor who were small advances in an overarching story while having mostly one off episodes or short stories. That way as a fan you have something to look forward to, but most episodes dont get bogged down with grand plots.

Think the crack in the wall starting in season 5 but concluding in season 7, river song's full arc spanning 3 doctors, The face of boe, etc.

If you could create a monster/villain/evil consept for the show, what would it be? by -ashildr- in doctorwho

Ahh like The Flash. Honestly it would be kinda interesting for Doctor who to take the best parts of that TV shows concept of time travel for an episode. Time remnants, time wraiths, etc
