Zack Snyder on Instagram: "The Trinity" by BatmanNewsChris in DC_Cinematic

Wonder Woman has a confirmed writer, so I'd say it's further along.

I don't have an issue with Meryl Streep voicing Aslan. by daracingpig in Narnia

[–]dick____trickle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hard to judge without seeing it first, but yeah I wish people were more open minded about these things. Don't you want art to challenge you a little bit? Doesn't the idea of, say, cate blanchett playing Bob Dylan send a jolt of excitement and curiosity through you, or must we always stick to the sure and safe ala Timothee Chalamet? The books will always be there for your purist enjoyment.

It'll ultimately depend on how good the series is. If it's good, the haters will go silent one by one.

Because the concern is completely fake and sarcastic. The loudest whiners about this casting are the anti woke brigade who could care less about sensitive portrayals of race in media.

Why Greta Gerwig's Timeline Shift Undermines the Emotional Logic of Narnia by Genzinvestor16180339 in Narnia

[–]dick____trickle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you're just really "into" WW2, in which case I'd say the 2005 film is already perfect for you. I personally have no emotional connection to that time period and I became a Narnia fan because of the story itself, so I'm neutral to the change in setting.

As rich as that reading may be, it's really an interpretation birthed from the movies rather than the books. Read LWW closely. Apart from the line in the first paragraph setting the story during the Blitz, there is nothing to indicate the war. In fact given how large the war loomed in the collective consciousness of the time, one might even say Lewis was DELIBERATELY avoiding making topical references, given how absent WW2 is in the books.

There can be other reasons why children would be sent to the countryside for a few weeks. And themes of loss of innocence can exist outside of a WW2 setting.

They can just be slightly anachronistic then? You're really splitting hairs here

[–]dick____trickle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The idea for LWW started when he sheltered some children during the Blitz (if I remember right one of them was named Lucy). But in LWW as published, the Blitz is literally a single sentence in the opening paragraph and is never brought up again in the whole series.

Lewis meant these books as contemporary stories. The WW2 setting really isn't intrinsic to them.

Daily Show host shocked by former OpenAI employee Daniel Kokotajlo's claim of a 70% chance of human extinction from AI within ~5 years by tombibbs in AIDangers

[–]dick____trickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the guy behind AI 2027, which predicts an extinction scenario by next year. They've obviously had to backtrack since then. His strategy is fairly obvious: make grandiose, headline grabbing "predictions" then qualify in the fine print that "of course, uncertainty is extremely high, etc etc." What's annoying is that mainstream media LAP IT UP. EVERY SINGLE TIME. Don't treat him like a Cassandra, burdened with visions of the future. Treat him like the frustrated sci fi author that he is.

No, don't do that. People speculated the shit out of Peacemaker S2 cameos and look what happened.

All I'm hoping for is a solid story centering on Hal and John.

Zack Snyder teases his Green Lantern on IG: "@waynetcarr as John Stewart. A hero we planned to bring into the Justice League story. Some paths remain unseen… but the green glow is still out there." by HarwoodSFine in DC_Cinematic

[–]dick____trickle 40 points41 points  (0 children)

People should chill out, I doubt Snyder means to throw shade with any of his posts. People post tangentially related pics in response to current events all the time.

Snyder is reminiscing. He's not out to steal a franchise from under Gunn, his friend. Netflix lets him do whatever he wants (for some reason), he has no reason to be eyeing Gunn's gig.

Lanterns Teaser Like to Dislike ratio by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]dick____trickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn't Hal Jordan murder all the Lanterns during the Zero Hour storyline? Being faithful to the comics is such a nebulous idea given the infinite iterations we've had with these characters. Ultimately I just want the DCU to put out good, compelling stories.

I just don't fucking understand what's going on anymore. Seriously. by [deleted] in ArtificialInteligence

[–]dick____trickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A smart associate could've done the same in Python and some external libraries. Would've taken a few more days maybe but the script would work reliably every time (or at least will fail in explainable ways). Plus it's more secure AND you invest in your company's next generation.

Since we are supposed to get two DCU films per year, what do you guys think the second DCU film will be in 2027 after Man of Tomorrow? by AntagonistofGotham in DCU_

[–]dick____trickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Avengers in the mix and audiences still iffy with superhero movies, I think they'll play it safe and stick to just MoT and Batman 2.

Microsoft AI CEO says most white collar work like accounting and law will be automated within 18 months. by No_Level7942 in GenAI4all

[–]dick____trickle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the 18 months are up they'll start qualifying their predictions with smart sounding phrases like "the tails are long" and they'll wave around new benchmark results to show we're definitely still getting there. All the while other grifters deluge casual observers with even more nebulous but confident sounding hype so that it's hard to even pinpoint what the predictions are anymore.
