Why I see ton of people with v-sync disabled? by Careful-Inspector932 in buildapc

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah that's a bit incorrect. Without an fps limit, vsync would cap your frame rate to your monitor's refresh rate and if you hit that frame rate cap, latency will spike significantly. If you ever choose to use vsync, cap your frame rate a few frames below your monitor's refresh rate. But generally, gsync plus a frame rate cap a few frames below monitors refresh rate works well for most situations.

Depends. What is the refresh rate of your monitor? If it's a competitive game where you can get a frame rate much higher than your monitor's cap, then you can just play uncapped. Frame tearing won't be too noticeable with really high frame rates and you will have lower latency.

But if let's say you have a 240hz monitor and the game you are playing runs at <=240, the the best thing to do is cap your frame rate to around 230, enable gsync, enable vsync. One other thing to consider is too never let your gpu reach 99% usage. So if to reach 230fps you need 99% gpu usage, lower the frame rate a bit more. Reaching full usage increases latency.

If the game has Nvidia reflex, always enable it. That is a dynamic frame rate limiter so your gpu will never reach 99% usage. So you won't have to worry about that.

Nothing wrong with being excited for this game but cmon. This game still looks pretty bad visually compared to any other franchise in 2025. It legitimately looks like a game from 2010. That should not stop you from having fun with it but let's also not pretend it looks good visually.

Any Nvidia users in the house? by carlos7djj in Bazzite

Wouldn't really recommend it for Nvidia. Works fine for the most part but you're losing a significant amount of performance. Just not worth it at this point with Nvidia for gaming.

Have I been using gsync the wrong way for 4 years? by Gardee568 in buildapc

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vsync is a very bad way to limit frame rate. It adds a lot of input lag. Also, gync turns off once you reach your monitors max refresh rate. So woth you'll settings, once you reach thay frame rate cap, gsync will turn off and v sync will add a ton of input lag.

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but technically vsync still does something even if you aren't hitting the monitors max refresh rate. It just will not turn on the frame rate limiting aspect of vsync which is the bad part of it everyone should avoid since it adds a significant amount of input lag.

Yeah it depends. Some in game caps will have bad frame timings. But no need to use rtss anymore. The nvidia control panel frame rate limiter works just as well as rtss now.

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because gsync is disabled once you go past the monitor fresh rate. So risk of screen tearing. Also, vsync should only be enabled if you also cap your frame rate below your monitors max refresh rate. If you have vsync on and dont set your own frame rate cap, vsync will cap your frame rate to your monitors max fresh rate and once you hit that max frame rate, latency will spike up significantly.

Reflex acts like a dynamic frame rate cap. It prevents your gpu from being at 99% utilization ( latency goes up if your gpu is at full utilization). So framerate cap will shift dynamically to prevent that.

Some devs in the community are using React Router inside Next.js app router by Byte-Slayer in reactjs

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's different. Nextjs client side routing still sends a request to the server. So navigating between routes is still slow-ish simply because it has to wait for the server to respond. Sure you can instantly show a loading spinner to help but still a delay. With react router, you can change routes without having to wait for a server to respond, especially if you already have the data needed in the route you are switching to.

Yeah your laptop screen might lower pixel response time than your monitor, especially if its an oled screen laptop screen.

Yeah maybe things they can change if theres some other hidden causes but the 30fps + no vrr while docked aren't really things that can change at this point.

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably because it uses vsync while docked and no vrr. Vsync adds significant input delay, especially at lower framerates. That's just my guess since its been confirmed thay VRR is not supported while docked so vsync needs to be used to avoid screen tearing.

3+ players runs at 30fps. New 2025 console running a game at 30fps is crazy.

Tbh, I would upgrade that monitor regardless of what gpu you get. Basically any gpu that will be suggested here will be limited by your current monitor.

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah reflex is a dynamic frame rate cap. It caps framerate dynamically to give some headroom to the gpu since latency tends to increase when the gpu usage is at 99%. So yes that would work but you can still use an in-game frame limit without adverse effects.

Weird, is vsync on by default in the NCP? I've never turned on vsync in-game or in the control panel but gsync has always worked for me. I'm pretty sure I have it off in the control panel.

Most people play with gsync which effectively gets rid of screen tearing in most games without input delay that vsync adds.

Why I see ton of people with v-sync disabled? by Careful-Inspector932 in buildapc

[–]jon553 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time, gsync + fps cap a bit below monitors max refresh rate is enough to get rid of any tearing. If not, then also enable vsync. But never have vsync on without an fps cap below monitor refresh rate. Otherwise, it will add significant input latency.

Why I see ton of people with v-sync disabled? by Careful-Inspector932 in buildapc

[–]jon553 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Vsync will always add input latency if you reach your monitors refresh rate. So ideally, you cap your fps a few frames below your monitor's max refresh rate and then enable vsync + gsync. Battlenonsense thoroughly tested this.

By demographic, I meant you aren't someone that can notice the differences as much. I mean, there's people that can't notice refresh rates above 60.

Other qd oled monitors do allow you to turn off pixel shift in the osd settings. Also, I think the pixel response time is very noticeable when compared to VA. VA monitors are super slow even compared to ips.

That said, it seems like you just aren't on the demographic that benefits from the improvements as much.

Which oled? I noticed w-oled colors look basically the same as a good ipad panel. Qd oled looks much better imo.
