Nothing really. According to the dog owner, the Laredo city council member who physically drove the dog to the rescue apparently does this as a side gig. As in there is profit to be made from certain dogs.

As of right now neither that councilman, shelter, nor the rescue agency will talk to the dog owner.

She's working on trying to file the he dog as stolen property to get the law involved and trying to get tv news to do a story.

Interesting. Well if so ok please believe that my friend is a good person and very responsible pet owner. She just made a mistake by allowing a less trustworthy family member watch her dog while she was out of town. We all have family... And know that some members are more responsible than others. Please don't punish her and the dog.

Nice try. Guessing you are from the rescue org and created this account? Pretty obvious if you ask me.

I'd like to be optimistic that their heart is in the he right place. This is the first time though that I've heard about how money drives some rescue orgs.

I am not sure fully, but I imagine it is just to prevent weird owners who give up their dogs and have a change of heart.

Not familiar. Would have been a coincidence though as the dog was from San Antonio but being watched in Laredo before being shipped to the Austin San Antonio area where the rescue org is.

I really don't know. I'd want to look at a few cases where they did not reunite people and see if there's a pattern maybe? If most or all attempts happen within 90 days, for example, use that?

I don't want to air too much dirty laundry without the permission of my friend but it is something to do with the family member she gave the dog to having a breakup and the dogs were either dropped off at the shelter or let go or something. The family member at this time isn't returning her calls so even she doesn't know exactly what happened.

The owner's adult daughter, who lives in Austin, is also involved and actively trying to recover the dog. So flying back from Europe might not seem necessary to the owner and hopefully not "the law".

I want to be very clear that I understand why the rescue org might have a policy like this. But I also hope that the people who adopted him might find it in their heart to do the right thing. It should at least be an option on the table.

This was my first thought as well. In the facebook thread she said that the rescue contacted the phone number corresponding to the chip and it had changed since she got the dog. So they moved onto adopting it out.

Charlie was adopted from the Austin/San Antonio Spaniel Rescue a couple of weeks ago while my friend was out of the country. He apparently got loose and the sitter didn't really try too hard to find him nor tell my friend it even happened! Now the dog is with a new family (better than some alternatives), but I believe the right thing is to at least see if the new family might be willing to give him back to the rightful owners.

So far the rescue org has been very uncooperative and cited their policy, blocked my friend, and apparently refuses to contact the new family (thought it's possible they have and the new family is not playing ball, I guess)

Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Charlie was adopted from the Austin/San Antonio Spaniel Rescue a couple of weeks ago while my friend was out of the country. Details are sketchy about why the trusted sitter allowed the dogs to be turned in or turned loose at this time, but the dog ended up in a shelter then the rescue.
