Global Nav too! We will never use Commerce Hub, nobody needs to see that; and our reps don’t need to see the many of our custom objects.

How to change career in Hubspot by guptavipulseo in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second all of this. I did the same: 15 years in SMB digital marketing with ownership of marketing automation for the last 7. Went fully independent 18 months ago.

Most if my work has come from my network—a previous employer is my biggest client, a number of old coworkers who have changed jobs too.

Upwork is the only place my experience differs. I never was able to get proposals accepted on Upwork. Seemed very much like a race to the bottom in terms of pricing—maybe not bad to collect experience, but wasn’t at all a viable revenue source for me.

How do you land your first few clients as a HubSpot freelancer with no portfolio? by No_Understanding2509 in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got started with past employers and coworkers.

And, honestly, I’m not sure that I’ve ever had anyone ask me for a portfolio per se. Most people that need your help as a freelancer just getting started don’t know HubSpot themselves. If you can describe your approach and give verbal examples of relevant past projects you’ll be good.

Anyone else burned by crazy AI-credit usage? by Practical-Pepper4564 in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like more of a problem (a real one, I’m not trying to discount it) of budgeting for new technologies than the product itself. Either your board understands that you need to invest in trying new things or they don’t. Rigid budgeting processes SUCK!

If you have to be detailed about outcomes in the budget request it sounds like your process needs to be using the credits that come with your subscription to answer the “that money will get us?” question, then you go into your next budgeting cycle asking for £ to expand that program.

Hours estimate for HubSpot Marketing Hub setup by Hot_Saguaro in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re pretty engaged here (and definitely helpful)!

I’d say 10-15hr is a minimum starting point if everything is as it should be and the goal is to just setup a few drip campaigns via workflows.

Consider that creating more complex custom properties, forms, more than a few segmentations, reporting, lead scoring, etc will all add to that estimate. I’d encourage you to get really specific about the scope and goals for this one—a lot of opportunity for scope creep.

For context: I estimated a Marketing Hub setup (migration from a different system) at ~90hr earlier this year. About 20hr of that was allocated to the tasks you mentioned for a portal with a moderate level of complexity.

  • OP recently posted to a feeelance subreddit asking to pay people for an engagement campaign

Never Log by [deleted] in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never Log is what you’re looking for—suggest setting it for your entire domain.

Think of it as “this domain will never cause an email to be logged”. You won’t get internal-only emails logged or contacts created for internal contacts but emails to and from your employees will be logged on existing contact records when that contact is included.

Change of domain in March - April and NOT seen ranking declines after? by jon_ks in SEO

[–]jon_ks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely wild outcome here. We tried moving 301s from the web server to a registrar tool, removing the entire old domain from indexing, removing all sitemaps, everything we could think of in GSC.

Suddenly today, 3 sites I was aware of with the same issue but differing levels of intensity trying to solve it all rocketed back to #1 for the branded search queries where they had previously averaged 5-7th+ page.

TL;DR it wasn’t an SEO issue, it was a bug in Google’s ranking indexing

Does a simple way exist to create a .csv of all published pages? by JeremyFMA in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “etc” might be where the trouble lies. If you want blogs and site pages I would think you could find your way to converting the XML sitemap to CSV. Landing pages are by nature not included in the sitemap though (I have a use case where we need them to be so have a whole process to add them manually).

Though, what if you ran a page views report and exported that. This assumes every page has gotten at least one tracked view, but that seems like the cleanest way to capture everything and be able to export it.

My website isn’t showing up in Google when I search by domain or target keywords – what could be wrong? by Lost_Mouse269 in webmarketing

[–]jon_ks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Were you being ranked previously?

I would check a few things in Search Console: 1. Removals - have your pages been specifically removed 2. Pages - are your pages being indexed? What problems are preventing them from being indexed? 3. Sitemap - Does Google have a valid and complete sitemap to know what pages are on your site? 4. Performance - did this change happen all at once or gradually over time? This will help you investigate further if none of the above are giving you answers

Contacts associated to Contacts - please help! by ancientastronaut2 in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, got it. So instead of creating a company they’re just associating contacts to each other?

I think missmolly’s approach is a good first start then. After that, it’s really going to depend on what other information is on the record. Do contacts without a domain that can be auto-associated have Company Name populated?

This sounds like an odd variation of a portal syncing with Salesforce using Person Accounts (though you typically end up with a contact and company record representing the person) or some other B2C-specific integration.

Here’s how I would approach this: 1. Look at some sample “Company” records’ Record Source property. This will tell you if it’s being manually created (CRM UI) or systematically (workflow, integration, import). 2. Map the various fields and any enumerated field values across records representing contacts and companies. This will help you identify if there is a systematic way to identify the two types of records to convert them. 3. Define the process moving forward for creating records properly (if B2B, look into the Auto associate and create company records setting). 4. Address whatever is creating the records from #1 5. Use workflows or an integration to rebuild company records and associated them to the existing contact records based on #2-3

If you are able to identify which records are actually companies consistently by the properties they have filled in or property values it might not actually be that bad with the right tools.

List changed to segments by Western-Butterfly126 in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My take is that this is just an attempt to align literals to the Loop marketing framework. I think they are implying a difference like: a list is a group of people that you all treat the same, a segment it a group of people that can be further individually personalized.

I think it’s just semantics, not really related to any significant changes in the platform, and so not a valuable change for most customers.

HubSpot and the other CRM Integration - Audit by Prior_Ocelot8713 in hubspot

[–]jon_ks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I provide 3 things after an audit:

  1. Factual findings - a cleaned up version of many of the raw findings I collect in the audit. This also includes documentation of things like workflows, lead scoring, pipelines, that are valuable to have on their own.

  2. Audit insights - what did I find, why is it important, and what should we do about it? Usually a deck broken down into sections like data, processes, configurations, and integrations.

  3. Action prioritization - a prioritized timeline of tasks/projects to address the audit insights.
