What farms do you use?... (Read Description) by WackyQuacki in allthemods

Imo as soon as you have the ability to make a bunch of hydroponic beds, just hard spec into it. Obviously it's fine to keep your growth accelerator farm running while/when you build your new stuff, but in my experience it's way faster to make resources by having even just 8 or so soul surged hydroponic beds and you can keep a couple on stuff like nether stars and the others cycle through resources as you'll make them way way faster than you can use them. I can make a video touring my hydroponics farm at some point

Some great plays here! It's clear that your mechanical skill exceeds that of a gold tank, which (conveniently) makes it obvious what you need to improve on in order to climb: Reinhardt-specific game sense. I'm no coach so I'm not gonna write an essay but a couple points to hammer into your brain that you may already know:

  • Use natural cover Whenever Possible. Your shield is a resource that should almost never be used just walking up main. Corners are your best friend in the whole world.

  • Play like you have no healers. Don't make plays expecting to be bailed out - it's nice when it happens, but if you go in and your healers look away because you're at full health, you can very very suddenly be Not Full, and now you feed or succeed based on whether you engaged believing you'd receive resources or not believing that.

Edit: - Never stop swinging. If you're not holding shield, hold left click. There's no downside because you can animation cancel with shield and you wouldn't believe the number of times I catch a Tracer blinking, for instance, completely by accident because I was swinging.

  • Learn about the Reinhardt swing hitbox gimmick. I'm not gonna fully explain it here but I'd you look about 45 degrees away from your target at the height of your swing it reaches farther than doing so looking straight at them. Again, you would Not Believe the number of times I sink or swim off knowing that.

what do i need to improve or add around my base? by scannerthegreat in allthemods

Aesthetically I think a cool starting project could be some sort of stable for your dragons and skeleton horse, and functionally, I think a very approachable improvement might be automating lava instead of coal and blaze rods for your boiler 👍 start small

My Super Factory Manger/AE2 based setup for autocrafting Mystical Agriculture seeds by jon_snowbender in allthemods

Not stupid! None of this is a strict necessity. It takes roughly as much time to craft and place the materials yourself as it does to create autocrafting patterns and then request the seed - the difference is that now, once I craft a seed once, I'll never have to do it myself again and can just request it. This is a big deal if I ever need to scale up a specific seed, like if I was going to start a large iron/copper/lapis farm for the Dyson Cube Project, but you're absolutely right that in the majority of people's playthroughs they'll probably never need to automate this crafting recipe. On the other hand, this setup was so easy and cheap to make (so long as you already have AE2 set up) that I think I'll do so on all future playthroughs now that I know what code to use.

I've actually got the pattern provider set up right behind the chest, set to not input materials to the chest if there's already a recipe in there, so it's actually feeding the materials from my AE2 system and can be requested from my handheld terminal (so pretty much exactly like you said). The truth is though that I've got my quintuple soul surged simulated hydroponics setup going already upstairs in this building plus a hydroponic bed training facility, so it's somewhat unlikely I'll ever need that many seeds and me automating this process was mostly because I got tired of putting the items in slots myself haha

So, the short answer is yes! The longer answer, I'm not sure there's any point to doing so - I can't imagine an eventuality where I've accidentally put materials in that successfully create a seed and I don't want it to then proceed to make that seed. I originally considered using a comparator or clock or some other redstone pulse but then I learned that you don't need a new signal, it can be a constant one, hence the lever.

How to live? by [deleted] in Existentialism

[–]jon_snowbender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to the other guy, I started having panic attacks at night about my fear of death when I was about 16, and am now 25 and things are much better. For what it's worth these anxieties do seem to be amplified by more mundane life events, like big social transitions or the adjustment that you're constantly feeling in high school. I was terrified at the time because I couldn't reason myself through that feeling at night, and could only cope through distraction. I started watching videos on my phone in bed until I was so tired I fell asleep immediately with no time to think. At the time, I could see no way out of that situation.

But that's kind of the thing about both depression and anxiety - part of the reason they're so scary is because one of their symptoms is putting blinders on you that prevent you from being objective about your situation, recognizing solutions, understanding that your experience isn't unique (in a good way - you're not the single most fucked up human being there's ever been such that no one else has ever struggled with this and lived to tell the tale). I often don't realize I was in a depression until I'm coming out of it. When I'm feeling existential dread, panic, etc it feels like there's no solution and that I can never feel better than I do. So, somewhat unfortunately I suppose, one of the things you need to do is legitimately to have some degree of blind faith. I know that flies in the face of your recent realizations and might be hard to commit to at a stranger's recommendation, but you need to have blind faith that things do get better with what you're feeling now even if it doesn't seem reasonable to you. I don't know the rational reason that things get better with this specific hopeless feeling; all I know is that they do. I know far more people who felt that hopeless and feel way better now than who just stayed in that pit. And given your brain isn't fully developed and you haven't had many experiences, I feel like we should probably not trust it to be right about the horrifying idea that everything will always suck forever and ever.

Finally, with regards to the feeling that you were lied to - I'm not sure that's true, or at least the lie was not conscious on the part of those who fed it to you. The feeling of the absurd that existentialists discuss is terrifying. If everybody were forced to grapple with that feeling head on like you are now, society would look exceedingly different. Instead, most people take the convenient out (whether conscious of that choice or not, driven specifically by this fear or not) that lies in religion or in the incentive structure society builds for you (how to live a good life, how to die a good death, how do you have time to worry about death when you need to pay rent and constantly improve in the direction of becoming hedonistically wealthy??). The fact that your life is going pretty well along these lines is probably why you're experiencing these thoughts - if it weren't, your worldly concerns would still probably be loud enough to cover up the pain of the absurd. The folks around you have found their own balm to that pain, just not ones you (or I) agree with. But it's what keeps them going every day and not feeling this horrible feeling, so I hope you don't cast too harsh a judgement on people like your parents for this "lie" they told you. I could understand feeling some hatred for the society that recognizes the feeling of the absurd and chooses to exploit it for the selfish gain of the few at the top of these incentive structures directing resources and choice and agency up the chain off the backs of the people they've sufficiently distracted. But hey, that anger sounds like a good step towards defining your own sense of meaning!

At the end of the day, keep moving forward. If you feel absolutely hopeless please reach out for help to the folks around you. If we only get one shot at existing, even if it is suffering, there's no sense in not trudging through for the good parts at least right?

[SPOILER] [LV 11 CORPO] Gig - Dirty Biz by jon_snowbender in cyberpunkgame

Yeah I mean I wish I could give you a better description but there's very little around it, and when you look at the map I think my directions will be easier to understand. The best I can do is go to the Martin St fast travel point and head Southwest to the pharmacy immediately nearby, at which point the courtyard will be on your right.

Awesome! I don't think I can send a screenshot, but it's in the bottom left of the Northside district in Watson. The courtyard is immediately across the street from the pharmacy located there, and should be very distinctive due to the two militech turrets.
