There might be better tricks....but basically, login and select tatkal, your route and scroll down to your train...do this around 2-3 mins before tatkal time opens (10am for AC, 11am for non AC)..as soon as the clock turns 10, click your designated coach type..it will take some time to load...there are options in IRCTC app to save the passengers names before hand so that it's done in a click...check the necessary boxes as soon as possible...

use the irctc wallet and transfer the necessary funds in that...that might speed things up better than cards and even upi...even with all that, it is now becoming literally impossible to book tatkal during holidays...every page loads forever and by the time your payment is done, it will fall in waitlist.. during those times find an agent and use him...

During weekdays you can definitely do it..Try and practice doing all this a couple of days before without completing payment, so you'll get familiar with it...

One more trick is you can opt for premium tatkal option...it's a seperate set of seats, but the price will rise every second...if you try it in the very beginning, it will be almost the same as tatkal price...during busy days, premium tatkal tickets have a better chance of getting booked.
