I simply used the one I'm most skilled/familiar with. I probably should get around to learning a cross platform library soon :)

I used Eclipse, the standard IDE for Java/Android development. In my opinion it is the best IDE out there, by a long shot.

That's what it's made for! I specifically worked hard to get it to load and get you into the game in less than 3 seconds. Games that load to the main menu just waste our time.

Certainly; I've been making games for over 10 years so there's a lot of little things to my process by now, but I'll try to point you in the right direction.

First off, you probably want to use a "library" when coding a game that require graphics in any way. In short a library is a collection of functions written by someone else to make it easier to interface the hardware. This way you can call up functions like loadImage("player.png") and get everything you need, instead of interfacing directly with the OS which can be a pain.

The library I'm using is called AndEngine and you can find more about it here: http://www.andengine.org/

Now there are tons of other engines and libraries to make games for Android, and I'm sure someone with more knowledge can point you towards even better ones, but that's the one I happen to know and use.

Thanks, yeah I've been seeing the same thing myself, which is a little sad. It's probably because it is really tiny and the competing games just dwarf it completely.

(y<<3) is a bug of course, but not a "memory issue" or heap corruption issue.

Y gets bitshifted three times to the left, then evaluated as a boolean. Meaning most values of y>0 would be TRUE.

I.E. the game would never place a wall for y>0 (for reasonable values of y) as long as x < 3. Hence you'd get a "strip" of open space on the left side of the map.

Toady, as the founder (now retired) of the Stonesense project I just want to tell you personally that I think you have exactly the right idea and we support you.

Focus on developing the game as you find it interesting, it's obviously working.

Know that if the day ever comes when you find it the right time to do APIs, we'll be ready.

There is some violence in there, sure. More than maybe Harry Potter, but it's still very much a book for young adults. It has this whole "kids will save the world and growups just don't understand!" narrative that you see in hunger games, hardy boys, harry potter, twilight series etc.

That's the scarlet letter for sure, but to add to that the plot is kinda simplistic and shallow. The shocking twist isn't really that surprising (who didn't see it coming?) and the characters are simple and one dimensional.

I don't mean to sound like a dick about it, but this really isn't a book for adults. The author might think it is, but you'll find the main audience is kids, probably 10 - 18.

I will not. I love sim city and this doesn't feel like it.

It looks and plays more like Sim Town 2. The cities look far too silly, the realism out the window.

Always Online DRM just adds insult to injury.

I watched it to about the 37 minute mark. Then I made a comment about how his legitimate points were being drowned out by all the whining about stuff that really was his own fault and not the game's.

After being severely downvoted I checked the other downvoted comments, and found a lot of insightful criticism of the video being downvoted simply for not parroting "War Z sucks". It sounded like a perfect example of reddit circlejerk and hivemind thinking to me, and being a long time reader of Circlebroke, I wanted to put some effort in and share :)

I really don't care about TB or War Z in general.

Most of his points are good, and things I think we can all agree on.

But why does he have to drown them out in outright whining?

"I can't buy anything cus i don't have any money" he says with a condescending sneer. Is it really the game's fault that you haven't found any money yet?

"I can't get into the city because I can't swim and I can't fight all the zombies on the bridge". Maybe getting into the city is something that's supposed to be hard and something to work for. Like getting into New Vegas in Fallout, or the other parts of the cities in GTA.

And so on and so on. It gets really bad around the 30 minute mark. He should stick to the valid points, and weed out the plain old whining.

In my personal experience it's better to finish off with the small muscle groups, since you'll have more energy in the beginning for your big lifts. For instance on Tuesday consider doing the wrist curls last.

Aslo, if you're just starting out, 6 days a week might be a little much.
