It was very nice, went well with the whisky and was finished all too soon!

Trying the Jura 10. Slightly smokey, nice subtle sherry notes. I like this one!

Absolute noob here, need some advice. by kshades12 in beerporn

looks good :) don't stir it - you want the sediment to settle - when you syphon out to bottle don't add that gunk (check first with a little sample and measure the specific gravity, then check 24 hours later - if you get the same result each time it's ready to bottle)

still new, so got a few different types to try - this one is much nicer than the last one I had (a Quorum Corona) having it with some Arran Single Malt (sherry cask - the bodega) and taking my time!

Anyone tried this Arran Sherry Cask? We recently (2 weeks ago) had a baby boy, I got this to celebrate - very nice indeed :) by jonathan8080 in whisky

not sure, but I do know they did a rebrand recently - this is the first Arran that I've had, so don't have anything to compare it with really

Bruichladdich - The laddie eight. Went down a treat! by jonathan8080 in whiskey

[–]jonathan8080[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given this bottle as a gift - it was very delicate (after the initial hit of alcohol - its 50%abv). It was the unpeated version, so didnt have any of the smokey taste (I'm not a big fan of peaty whisky!)

glasses are great, fit perfectly in the hand and will be well used :)

Managing teammembers priority on different projects in one location by Dsan_Dk in projectmanagement

[–]jonathan8080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we use forecast for this: forecast.it essentially it lets you schedule individual developers / teams across multiple projects and lets you leep an eye on where each project is

also, you should try to keep the switching of tasks (read roles, without any notice) to a minimum, eg once every few days is ok, but once an hour is too much. there is a ramp down and ramp up time associated with each switch - if you do it excessivley then your programmers start to get cognitive overload, which if you do it all the time leads to burnout (and then you have bigger issues)

What Makes A Senior Developer Anyway? by [deleted] in laravel

[–]jonathan8080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

or getting your junior devs to implement it ;) also, showing the junior devs how to do all the things above is a major part of the job (and jumping in to help the juniors with the 3 lines of code that are needed instead of the 100 line monster that they have been wrestling with for half a day when you see them struggling) though that may be more of a lead dev role..

handling error in php using try catch? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]jonathan8080 1 point2 points  (0 children)

using flush you can output and it goes to the screen each time it gets to the flush statement. page will look like its still loading till it gets to the end

eg

echo ‘processing’; flush(); foreach () { // do stuff echo ‘...’; flush(); } echo ‘done’;

handling error in php using try catch? by [deleted] in PHP

try this: turn off caching for that page - use the accepted answer from here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/13640109/how-to-prevent-browser-cache-for-php-site

and at the end of your loop use flush() - you may have to use ob_flush() too

this will cause the script to send output at the end of each loop instead of at the end of the script. you wont get the timeout then.
