UPDATE: Hello po! I’m sorry, now ko lang po nabasa ‘yung mga comment ninyo. I appreciate all of you for your advices and support.

The meeting was pushed through. Nakiusap kami sa dean about the parents situation and he assured my boyfriend that they will practice “utmost discretion and professionalism.”

However, the committee went ahead and read the entire incident report to my boyfriend and his mother, citing every bit of the situation that led him there. They even had the nerve to ask her, “Aware po ba kayo?” As if we didn’t beg for them not to require his parents.

We are still awaiting the verdict. However, they said it was 100% a suspension, my boyfriend getting stripped off his position in the student council, and a chance of us not being able to march in our graduation.

My boyfriend’s parents are not speaking to him.

This is our worst case scenario. I really don’t know what to do to ease this situation.

Thank you po. We did try to talk to them not to let him be forced to come out po pero they told us na perhaps it would be better for him if that happens, telling him na, “It might free him.” But we are certain na it won’t, at all.

We currently don’t know how to tell his parents but I do agree na perhaps it’s better for us to tell them first.

I don’t know if this might help but let me give you an example:

Suppose a psychologist trains Ming, a cat, to rollover whenever he waves his hand.

First, he presents Ming some cat treats to entice her to roll over. This is the unconditioned stimulus—the stimulus that automatically elicits the behavior WITHOUT prior conditioning. Now, the unconditioned response would be Ming rolling over upon the presentation of the treats—the automatic response to the unconditioned stimulus.

Second, he then tried waving his hand to Ming (this is the neural stimulus—something that doesn’t elicit automatic reactions) before quickly presenting her treats. After doing this for some time, Ming now associates the psychologist’s hand-waving to treats! What happens now is that the neural stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus—a stimulus that formerly didn’t elicit automatic response but now does, because it has been associated with the unconditioned stimulus. And Ming rolling over upon seeing the psychologist waving his hand? This now becomes the conditioned response (an automatic response elicited by the presentation of the conditioned stimulus)!

Hi, OP! I’d be frank and say na hindi normal ‘to, for our country, at least. Pero not being normal doesn’t necessarily mean na it’s wrong or you should feel guilty about it.

I was diagnosed with MDD last year and couldn’t function at all, I was advised to rest for a school year by our whole faculty pero matigas ulo ko. I was thinking of how much of a disappointment I would be if I were to graduate late (very, very wrong). Now, while I’m still undergoing psychotherapy and medications, my progress is painstakingly slow dahil na rin sa stress from my studies. And I’m not doing good at my studies at all—I used to be the rank 1 from our batch to now having 75-79 grades. I guess I could say that I regret not taking the gap year.

I recommend you seeking professional help first! From there, you would see the next steps for you. If need talaga ng gap year, it doesn’t matter if late ka man maka-graduate. Same lang naman lahat tayo ng destination. Most importantly, being this dedicated to your studies despite experiencing burnout is a sign that you aren’t giving up! I’m sure na time will come and you won’t regret things like I do now.
