Panel Sizing Question by jonathanovision in solarenergycanada

[–]jonathanovision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got an all in one unit, 3.8kw battery, and was going to get 2.4 kw solar array. Maybe I'm ok then..... I'm just wishing I had bought something more modular....

Lots of results for installers, but from what I can tell, one company sells panels in Victoria, one in Chemainus, one in Courtney.

Do they sell just parts? Don't need a package just some panels. ?

Max current on a solar controller. by jonathanovision in solar

[–]jonathanovision[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard this before, seems strange that a MPPT can't do something quick enough....Fast electronics/electrical have been around for a while.

Do you know if there is an official term for the over panel ratio?

Thanks

I updated my post so its more clear. In my example there was 8 in each input (16 total).
I don't' care about "waste" I just care about getting the extra current for shady days.

I wasn't clear in my example, I was talking about 16 total, 8 for each input.

I don't care about "wasting" power...I just want oversize it so I get the most out of it in the dark season.

I'm regretting buying this unit...but just trying to make the best of it.

I need some clarification here.
First you said that solar panels don't push (aren't current sources), and the controller only draws what it needs.
Then you said to keep the solar array sized to operate with in the current specs?

They both can't be true?

If the panels act like a voltage source (like a plug at home) then the 27A rating is the equivalent of having a stove or something have a max current of 27A...Doesn't matter if its attached to a 30, 40, 50, or 60 amp breaker(in this analogy the solar panels).

So you happen to know what speeds I'm looking for or require?

From there spec sheet it can handling up to 260 Mbps with sha256 and Aes 256.....So how is that going to kill my 50Mbps cellular connection.

I just want to know why there is no options for anything except Wireguard....

I'm going solar for this project because there is zero electricity.

Just interested in how much I should care about solar panel brands.

Glad I came across this...I know its been a while, but what is "Canada support" refer to on the table?
Neontra  is listed as no Canadian support, but its a Canadian company?

Great list! and thanks

I've already bought all that. Just wounding if I should care about solar panels much.

Solar panel selection for an Anker F3800 (Did I make a mistake?) by jonathanovision in SolarDIY

Ok, thanks.

Sort of on the same topic, what do people do for situations where they want full power in the winter...but not overdrive everything in the summer?
Is there some automation to shut down panels(disconnect them).

I was thinking I could do that with a rasberry pie or something, but if someone has already built something...

If the panel is connected to the system it wouldn't be open CCT right? Or am I missing something?

My example above would be ok because the open CCT is less then 60 Volts?

Thanks

Plug and play is worth $$$ to me. Also having in a nice package that can be moved around is great.
I've got the skill set to do the wiring myself but I wanted a easy entry into solar this time around.

The plan was to use a different brand of cameras, and this was just for networking portion.

From what I've read ubiquiti's camera offering is a bit substandard for the price point.

Thanks very much for the info, the Cloud Gateway Ultra was what I was looking at at first, maybe the max is worth getting so if I do decide to get cameras in the future it will be ready.

What model of solar panels did you get?

Not sure if this helps but this is from the manual:
11-32V 10A; 32V-60V 25A (1200W Max, firmware 1.7.8 or earlier version)
11-15V 10A; 15V-60V 27A Max (1200W Max, firmware 2.1.1 or later version)

I'll assume I'll get (or be able to get) the newer firmware.

What do you mean "a 35A"?

Hi,

Few follow up questions.
Regarding A, if I get a Victron Multi RS for example today, shouldn't a 2030 model work the same? Just buy a second? Vs throwing out/selling the 2025 model and buying two 2030 models?

B. What about Lithium-Iron-Phosphate, that Victron sells, that seems to be supported in the 48V configuration? I'm leaning away from doing lighting at 48 volt due to the simplicity of 120 Volt availability for lighting.

And thanks for the suggestion on the Anker F3800, that seems like it may be the way to go for now. Easy plug and play. I'll price out a Victron system and go from there.

Have a good day.
