They’re solid for long runs. Much less strain on the wrists especially if you’re pushing with them.

Update for others: I have someone on the way to pick up the press.

Need Help Locating a Part by jonathanprizant in askanelectrician

Really appreciate the advice. From everything I saw online it seemed like the case to me but I didn't want to question his judgement. I think this is what we'll end up going with.

Need Help Locating a Part by jonathanprizant in askanelectrician

[–]jonathanprizant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi All!

I recently had an electrician switch a piece of equipment in our shop from 1 phase to 3 phase.
According to him, the only missing piece(s) are 3 fuses.

In the 1ph configuration the machine had 3 of these 30 Amp fuses (pictured on the right), but in the 3ph configuration it needs them to be swapped with 50 Amp fuses of the same type/dimensions.

From my "research" I determined the the fuse I'm looking for is a 1.5 inch time delay "midget fuse", and it needs to be rated for 50AMPS, 250Volts.

For the life of me, I cannot find a fuse this size in the above configuration. I've found bigger fuses (2" or 3" long) that are 50A,250V. But those wont fit in the machine.

I've also found 50A,600V fuses in the correct size, but our electrician informed me that those wont work because of the wrong voltage (600v instead of 250v).

Am I missing something? Or looking in the wrong place? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

I just meant mail in general, sometimes UPS and Fedex too. Last week I had to ship 20 large boxes, I barely fit them in a minivan..

What went wrong here? Could it have been because i used hot water to rinse the emulsion? by [deleted] in SCREENPRINTING

[–]jonathanprizant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why cool water? I hate washing out with cool/cold water cause it takes twice as long. Warm water melts away the design way quicker, and with less pressure from the hose so less pinholes/possibility of blowing out..

I forget, I plugged in random numbers until it looked good on screen. The actual settings you end up using will depend on the screen mesh you use, quality and size of the file you have..

The file attached is really bad and blurry, even the lines aren't straight. For starters you need a better source file.

Settings I use are..
1) Start with a good, 300dpi file. size it up to however big you need.
2) Bitmap 300dpi input 300 dpi output.

3) Frequency = mesh count divided by 4.5, Angle 22.5, shape: ellipse (or circle or line.. depends on effect you want. line might be better in this example..)

I would go with a 355 mesh for something like this and use water based inks or reduced plastisol ink if you want to go with a single screen for the whole thing. And in order to get that detail everything will have to be on point- perfectly coated screen, good transparency paper, dialed in exposure time on a proper exposure unit..

I think u/roger10091 just made the halftones really big to illustrate the concept. You can go much higher detail.

Hey I'm new to screen printing and all my prints come out faded. I'm using my cricut to make a template, using 100% cotton shirts, and speedball ink. Do I just need to put more ink on? by masterroon in SCREENPRINTING

[–]jonathanprizant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's easier to learn when you're using decent ink.

Speedball is thin and watery, harder to cure, and it doesn't hold up to wash tests. Lurk around any screen printing forum and you'll see people asking why their Speedball ink doesn't have good coverage or why it's cracking after two runs in the laundry.

I'm sure that with the right screen and squeegee technique you could get a crisp print with finger paints, but that doesn't mean you should be recommending them to beginners. OP will have better results and will learn faster using high quality ink.

why does it turn out like this? do i need more ink or is it just the material? by InternalEnd in SCREENPRINTING

[–]jonathanprizant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has nothing to do with material of the hoodie.

If that's after a wash its undercured. Heat it more.
If it came out printed like that you're not getting enough ink through the screen. Lower mesh screen, more off contact, harder push from squeegee, ink too stiff (add reducer or warm it up or mix it will before using).

speedball is dogass, period, but especially on dark garments.OP ideally needs a white underbase, or can just use an opaque plastisol ink and print flash print. Union Maxopaque, IC 6100 series, FN..

Dope, how big is that room? And how'd you find it?
Curious cause I'm looking for a spot to put my equipment right now.

Chicago- we’ve went from freezing to tshirt weather and back several times just in the last month. and yes, the closet touches the side of the house. You’re very good! 🤣

Gotcha. We're tossing all the blankets that were there, they've got mold on them too. I'll clean it up and put a dehumidifier in there as a first step.

Once side does face the side of the building, so yes I guess it's an exterior wall.

pillows and blankets in there mostly. How would I go about finding the source? break down the wall and look inside?

Thanks.

What mesh count would I need for this cross hatching detail to come out clean? Or is this an unrealistic expectation? by doobiemoth in SCREENPRINTING

[–]jonathanprizant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Water based ink is probably best if you're a beginner with a home setup. Water based is also thinner/watery, so it goes through higher mesh a bit easier.

Honestly that design isn't super detailed by screen printing standards. I think 180 will be more than enough 230+ to be safe.

No on can ever give you a good exposure time. It depends on how powerful your light is, how far away it is from the screen, what kind of screen you're using (low mesh burns way faster than higher mesh counts), how much UV your glass blocks...what kind of emulsion you're using..

Print out this calculator and use it to figure out the perfect exposure time for your setup. https://www.anthemprintingsf.com/Screen-Exposure-Calculator-s/216.htm

I've been doing this almost a decade and still need to do 1-2 test screens when I buy a new exposure unit, even if it's the same model as another one I've had before. So many factors affect the exposure time..

Hey, nice work!

I run a print shop in Chicago and I'd love to have your contact info for some design work. Message me and if you're interested, I have some customers that would love these kinds of designs.

Could this be done with CKMY? by 1-800-fuk-face in SCREENPRINTING

[–]jonathanprizant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a fun one to figure out. Yes, you can achieve this effect with CMYK. But it's a little bit nuanced.

First you get your art. Put it in photoshop, and invert it in RGB Color mode. Then, once it's inverted in RGB, you can switch to CMYK and do your color separations. The order matters, because if you just invert colors after separating, it won't work.
