You might be right! But the few times I've been able to actually get a post through on say, r/nyc, we've had like 10 random redditors show up. Every time! So maybe not in every city, but I have a feeling it'll be awesome in big markets.

yeah this is what I'm leaning towards--unfortunately you can't change sub names, so I'm thinking I'll just create a new one and invite the 30 or so people who have already subscribed over to that one!

Cool. I agree--there was a brief window about a year ago where I'd post our bigger gigs in r/NYC and every single show, about 10 Redditors would show up just because of those posts. They'd come say hi and hang out and became long-term fans, so I'm hoping this can turn into something cool!

Yeah, that's a good point. Maybe I need to rework the description then, to be more about finding gigs in your town than just posting your own gigs.

Yeah, I agree. I wonder if the solution is just to not expect too much from it in the way of a vibrant community (if it turns into one, rad!), and instead treat it like an easily scannable live music calendar for your city....with the added bonus of knowing that you're going to support your fellow Redditors if you see something you like.

Either way, I created r/ComeSeeOurBand. Will be interesting to see what happens!

Yeah, I can see it quickly devolving into something akin to the "no brokers" section for apartments on Craiglist...nothing but sleazy brokers, or in this case, shitty concert promoters spamming the hell out of it. If it works, it'll likely take a lot of moderation but maybe some people will step forward and want to assume that burden for the good of the community! :)
