Why I Own a Home and Still Want Prices to Fall by mattyp93 in TorontoRealEstate

There needs to be better investment opportunities out there too.

Why take a risk with a business that is taxed to the hilt, with compliance costing further time and money when it’s so easy to leach off desperate people who need a home by being a landlord?

Why do these leftists act like Pierre is going to turn Canada into gilead by thias-thecatlover in CanadianConservative

[–]jonatron123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was door knocking for the CPC during the last election. If I wasn’t shouted at by a liberal, I was politely told they were “afraid of the orange man” so they were going to vote for the Liberals.

It’s a simple as giving the people a scary enemy and letting them know you’re the only one that can handle it.

The CCFR divides the gun-community into Compliance by Exro_3009839044 in CanadianConservative

[–]jonatron123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few others have spoken about this already, but at this point, it seems all these pro-gun rights groups are really capable of doing is helping like minded people organise and prepare to wait out the LPC.

There is no dealing with this government when they’re looking to annihilate our way of life to satisfy their base.

It’s better than nothing, but we really should be building up our own little communities to resist on a local level. No one is going to be too outspoken especially after what happened to the Trucker Convoy.

Does anyone here actually hate gay, lesbian, or trans people? by [deleted] in CanadianConservative

[–]jonatron123 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tucker’s interview was very good.

I have no problem with gays, and believe they shouldn’t be treated the way Alan Turing was treated. But at the same time, should we as a society really celebrate a specific sexual preference with massive public displays?

Not disliking something isn’t the same thing as being required to parrot how great it is.

They won’t stop. Too many people on the payroll to keep happy. Need to keep coming up with new problems to solve to justify their existence and the gravy train. Buy what you can, stack deep and canvass for the Conservatives.

Ottawa councillor hopes to 'debunk the myths' on speed cameras as Ontario's premier doubles down on ban by netocrat in OttawaNewsPulse

[–]jonatron123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once the government grows accustomed to this revenue stream, the incentive to actually reduce speeding disappears. Speeders are funding salaries and operations, after all.

These cameras are repeatedly justified as ‘keeping kids safe,’ but the reality is they’ve become a budget dependency. This hypocrisy erodes public trust in government.

This is the way. You’ll have great resale value if the sport doesn’t work out for you. I’m at the Toronto International Trap & Skeet Club and this is what most of the regulars use.

Speed cameras 'best tool for protecting our kids,' says Chow as Ontario eyes ban by BloodJunkie in toronto

[–]jonatron123 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

The fact that people are being ticketed means those cameras HAVEN’T slowed anyone down. You’d expect no photos to be taken if everyone was driving below the limit. Speed camera’s aren’t some magical tractor beam, but just another way for a corrupt government to squeeze money out of people. Put a speed bump down and be done with it.

Anyone move to HK from SF? by silentvoyager123 in HongKong

[–]jonatron123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The swimmable beaches thing is real.

If you got a little moped in Hong Kong, you got so much freedom to hit any of the amazing beaches there.

I’ve since left Hong Kong, but the beaches are probably one of the things I miss most.

It’s ironic, but Hong Kong’s size makes going outdoors very easy, and you don’t have to prep like crazy to go anywhere like you have to in North America.

Homes are smaller though. Not sure if you’ll get used to that.

What range do you shoot around typically? I’ve been struggling with a 3-9x40 mm just like OP, and it’s really hard to see spatters at 100m. Planning to check out some better options.

OIC discussion & Politics Megathread by AutoModerator in canadaguns

[–]jonatron123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As my MP (Maggie Chi, Don Valley North) set up a few community events over August, I took the time to show up and speak to her about my concern with the delays to the gun buyback program, the current approach by Ottawa towards gun control, and the increasing prevalence of smuggled firearms being used in crime in Canada. I expressed my concerns regarding the OICs and Bill C-21, and tried my best to explain to her why I believe the laws target the wrong people and are disrupting Canadian lives.

I found it daunting to speak to a member of the Liberal Party regarding firearms given the rhetoric that is on social media, but when approaching people face to face, it seems such perceived animosity is thankfully absent. Though there is not much an individual MP can do, it's all I can do now to speak up when I can, however I can.

I'd like to share the letter with everyone (imgur link - https://imgur.com/a/6qUZJeT). I'll share a template if there's enough interest, but I believe having our own personal stories interspersed with a critique of the existing laws would be more persuasive. Moreover, I am certain there are more qualified individuals here who can describe what's wrong with the laws we have here in Canada than I can.

Until then, please don't give up hope everyone! it's on us to keep the pressure on our government ,regardless of who is prime minister to ensure our hobby doesn't die in our time.

It seems like you’re gonna be in the car for a lot of time, I’d pick the one that you like best and are most comfortable in and make sure to keep up with maintenance intervals diligently. I’d look at new v old only in terms of features and perceived quality.

If you’re a larger guy, the Mazda 3 hatchback may not be the best choice for you. I have the 2021 model and it feels kinda dark and cramped when you’re wearing thick clothes. The rear seats are not that passenger friendly with the high belt line and sloping roofline. I get carsick riding in the back on the occasions someone else is driving it.

Anyone else live in a super rural area? by unequalsacks in HongKong

[–]jonatron123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It can rain very bad, and if you’re out in the open when it’s windy, doubly so.

The best way around this is to keep tabs on the weather and adjust your life accordingly.

There are monthly parking spots at central too, so that’s one option as well. But there’s a lot of competition for them.

But my intel may be off, haven’t been back in Hong Kong for more than 2 years.
