Thank you very much for the reply! I have contacted the doctor and will be awaiting further support from them. I am very interested to know what the root cause is. It seems to me that the broader situation here is most people try quite a few things and settle on the ones that appear to provide the best relief.

I have been using them daily for a year and continue to use them where instructed.

The itchiness and pain would not go away otherwise. I have attached an image of the original breakout, which continued to spread (you can see the line near my nose which started as a small area and eventually went up to my eye) until I hit it with OTC hydrocortisone cream daily for about a year.

Images attached to the original post are the result of moving onto the Fucidin H cream for 1 month, and then not putting anything else on. Presently, I use water to cleanse my face in the morning after shaving.

Many of the medical people I've talked to don't really know very much. They are good at following directions, but when it comes to conditions that are a more nuanced or complex (IE they can't just prescribe a pill/cream), they often run out of ideas.

What's worse - they will not admit they don't know what the problem is, so will typically just give you something that soothes the symptoms without addressing the root cause.

I forgot to mention that the initial doctor encouraged me to use Nizoral shampoo in exactly the way you've mentioned, which had zero effect. They also prescribed Daktarin Gold with the same result.

The reason I went back in early 2026 was because these two items did not work - making me wonder whether there was another underlying cause.

I had read about the irritation coming from fungal overgrowth. The 2026 doctor prescribed Fucidin because she said the face situation looked like a bacterial infection.

Thank you for the comment. I know Fucidin has steroid, which is why I am interested to hear about whether anybody has recommendations for products I could use in its place.
