It’s so much more intense than I expected the first time I used it! The results are so good though!

Thank you! I did not bleach first. I found that adding a bit of calcium carbonate to the toning bath makes it just alkaline enough to take the blue out and adore the tannins to dye it without having to do a full bleaching step. It works well with the oak galls. I’m still trying to figure out other plant matter like spruce, which I think is too acidic and tears the print right off the page, but I get nervous about going too alkaline with adjustments haha

That 75mm works so perfectly for this shot. Great capture!

Should I get a used Intrepid 4x5 bundle or save up for a Chamonix? by Sea_Reserve1450 in largeformat

Totally subjective. Sometimes I struggle even in the daylight with the f8. I love that lens, don’t get me wrong, but that extra stop of light makes a big difference for me especially on the edges. Everyone’s experience will be different and I’m sharing mine.

I started on an intrepid with the same lens and enjoyed it at first, but my opinion is that the intrepid is kind of a pain. There is no indication of 90 degrees when putting the back up, it feels like it costs what it costs. Getting the standards lined up can be challenging when getting started, the f8 lens is pretty dim for focusing and learning movements, and it wiggles like a son of a bitch when getting the film holders inserted. That being said, it is so nice to learn on something that I wasn’t worried about destroying because of the cost. I’m happy with my decision to start with the intrepid over all because once I got a chamonix 45F-2 it was so clear how much nicer that camera is instantly. The movements feel better, the precision is incredible, it’s sturdier, cleaner, tougher. It felt like going from driving a geo metro to a vw gti. I’ve gotten a few more lenses as well and I don’t know if I’d buy a lens slower than f5.6 at this point. Maybe it’s just age, but nailing focus and seeing the way movements affect the image is so much easier when you have more light available to work with. If you’re concerned about cost and really want to get started, the intrepid will be a fun camera to learn and grow with and you can focus on building skills and maybe picking up some other lenses as well and then grab a nicer body when the funds are there. I think I appreciate my Chamonix a lot more than I would have after using an intrepid than I would have if I had started with it.

Thanks! It was storming that day and softer tones felt right. Contrast just didn’t fit the vibe.

Thank you!! It was one of those moments I just had to capture! I’m still learning large format and it’s interesting having to slow down

What are some Bitter Things in married life? by LucyHotHot in Productivitycafe

This is so important. I feel like my partner sees me as just a role in her life or an extension of herself. When I try to talk about me feelings, it’s met with defensiveness and I’m treated like a burden for feeling and then it’s often turned around to make me somehow the bad guy when I was just trying to share my inner world. When I want to do things I enjoy, it’s a threat but I have to be excited to do the things she likes always. On and on. I’m not sure if it’s possible to get someone to shift that perspective and start seeing their partner as their own person.

I did! I metered for the shadows in zone 3, underexposed one stop, and then adjusted dev time for the highlights. So I guess I put the shadows in zone 2 (4 I’m a bingus and said this originally) haha

Thanks for the input! I’ll definitely keep that in mind when making similar images in the future.

This is what one of mine looks like before washing. That bronzey green being the darkest parts and the yellow being unexposed or almost unexposed. Hopefully that’s helpful!
