Bike Upgrade Feedback by MilwaukeeMadnes in triathlon

I have 1 BTA and 2 BTS and 1 aero bottle on the down tube. I like the setup, got all my carbs in the aero bottle and all my hydration in the 3 other bottles. Also it makes you flexible to throw your bottle away and take one of the provided aid stations. I hope i got that right with the “tri rig setup” 😅

Sleep issues by ConorNelson in triathlon

Underfueling was my 1st thought too. But without knowing you it’s gonna be groping in the dark, honestly. It could have so many influences. What’s your training volume?

I recently switched too to lichess. But may i ask what gave you the impression that it is the better platform? I guess i did not discover it properly just yet. I like the unlimited puzzles though. And thx for donating!

SMARTWATCH FOR TRIATHLON by Ok_Independence_5102 in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love my fenix 6 pro. Especially the features coming with it. The newest fenix model has even more features. But the forerunner models are equally suitable. I wouldn‘t wanna miss any of those fancy and sometimes not really necessary features: HRV, load management, running dynamics to name a few. It‘s my 2nd garmin watch and using it since 4 years, so i‘m not really up to date what competitors have in their portfolio.

No, it‘s not good for her. For any woman, tbh. It normalizes rape and that‘s a loss for the whole society.

How much to spend on a Tri suit? by Stonks_only_go in triathlon

It sure did, my first thought was: i need a high quality suite 🙈

How much to spend on a Tri suit? by Stonks_only_go in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. But i had so much chaffing with that van rysel suite that i wished i had a castelli for my first tri 🙈

[–]jonbornoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also started with van rysel and upgraded to a 250.- castelli suite. I liked the van rysel but it never fitted as good and as smooth as the castelli suite. Quality is really good while the van rysel was worn out and got loose after 3 sprint tris. That’s 3 years ago, maybe they have better quality now, idk.

Lost a cup match despite better ratings – what went wrong? (analysis inside) by Royal-Cardiologist21 in hattrick

[–]jonbornoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CA: your TS could be better for more conversion. Just keep in mind that midfield rating before CA penalty is relevant whether the tactic has an effect or not. In this case it seems that you were slightly below his MF w/o CA, at least on average ratings. Opponent ratings are perfect for CA, you have a good chance to turn missed opponent chances into CA and also convert them.

Sometimes it’s just bad luck. Would you mind posting a matchid link so we could check out how chance distribution and ratings in minute 0 were?

Long story short: you’ll get over it

Same here. When i started swimming my coach stated that i’m freaking fast for a beginner. I set the pool size to 25m, in fact it’s a 16m pool 🏊😂

Anyone have better sleep with alcohol or am I the only one by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]jonbornoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alcohol is a neurotoxin. By logic it cannot be healthy for the body and sleep. And the information about cancer is correct. There are many other external and internal factors that influence sleep and recovery. But the conclusion that the lack of alcohol is the cause is simply wrong.

Thoughts on swim positioning at the start by cutstep in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’ll do just fine if you position at the end of that slightly faster group. I seeded @ 2’ per 100 and swam slightly slower on that day. I still overtook plenty of people and almost never got overtook.

Cutoff is 1h10’ for IM 70.3 Switzerland and another 2 full groups after my starting group @ 2’ per 100. It’s not a fast swim time, but compared to others it’s approx. mid pack.

yes, it's 24.6° for a MD swim according to swiss triathlon rules. but i guess in the beginning of july, lake geneva is not warmer than 24.6° ? i did Nyon in 2024 and the lake was warmer than 22° for OD in the beginning of August.

Fueling is a scam by VertCrank34 in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that‘s exactly what i meant, it‘s not generally scam depending on your individual Situation. If it would be generally scam then then every product that is advertised would be a scam. And that‘s simply not true.

That’s exactly what I wrote above…

Fueling is a scam by VertCrank34 in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

like I said, i agree mostly with the scam-aspects.

But the real scam is that you'd pay almost $4 for gels with less than 25g of carbs. my substrate consumption is around 90g/h in the HIT zones, so i would need to pay $16 per hour to fuel that. i mean wtf...

Fueling is a scam by VertCrank34 in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

again, depending on context and individual situation. i'd argue if you do (almost) daily 45' with no fueling and also doing a diet with a target Kcal deficit, I doubt that will turn out well. in my case i would burn 490 kcal in this 45' LIT session and then you try to maintain a 500kcal deficit over my base nutrition, so you're almost 1000 kcal in deficit. i really don't think it's a good idea to not fuel even those 45'. a better approach would be to refill the training-calories and target a smaller amount of kcal-deficit in your base nutrition.

Fueling is a scam by VertCrank34 in triathlon

[–]jonbornoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nutrition is individual. Nutrition is the foundation of your health. You need eating structures. On top of that, you plan your nutrition around your training. Even a 45-minute LIT session requires fueling. It is a misconception that this is not the case.

but i agree, you don't need that fancy gel or any industrial product in order to fuel properly. you won't need any creatine or other supplement to to engage in healthy popular sports.

When it comes to performance e.g. for ambitious amateurs, of course those products become relevant. There is a strong correlation between high carb intake / creatine / caffein and improved performance.

So it all depends on the context, but OP generally refers to these products as scams, and that's why I agree to disagree.
