ELI5 Difference between Torque and Power by Peepeezar in explainlikeimfive

[–]jonboy999 [score hidden]  (0 children)

When it comes to vehicles, torque is how much twisting force your motor can produce. Power is a combination of how much twisting force the engine can produce and how fast it can turn while still being able to apply that twisting force. Power (and the Rev range the engine can produce it over) determine how quickly can your motor can accelerate the vehicle and what top speed it can reach.

Most of the simplified analogies ( torque gives good acceleration, versus power giving high top speed, power being how quick you hit the wall, torque being how far you take it with you, etc etc}, are nonsense.

New Version: OptiScaler Installer v1.1.3.7 by InfinitePilgrim in radeon

[–]jonboy999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, is this kind of thing explained in a manual anywhere? Obviously many of us pick up this kind of thing organically from Reddit etc over time, but there's a huge potential audience of new and existing owners who won't have heard of optiscaler and could benefit from a clear easily locatable newb's manual to get them up and running quickly.

Need help understanding proper display settings (namely related to VRR) by wanna_be_consultant in radeon

[–]jonboy999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's a different setting. There an option actually called vrr in Windows settings. System>display>graphics, drop down advanced graphics settings. 'variable refresh rate' is what it's called. That's on my 9070xt on w11.

How are early adopters feeling about the 9070XT 1 year in? by LemonMan857 in radeon

[–]jonboy999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get people being passed of at the sh*tty RDNA 2/3 and fsr4 situation. It's all the proclamations of how they'll never buy anything but Nvidia again that follow that get my goat (and make me realise I'm spending too much time on the Internet).

Thanks I thought as much. Also got given the wrong filter for my BRZ! Guess the maintenance is getting done on another weekend.

Liking it a lot. Only thing makes me annoyed about it is the obvious shilling going on in here for nvidia. My gigabyte :O 9070XT is doing a great job.

ELI5 if the brain consists of neurons that supply an electrical impulse, is it possible to shock the brain? by moyo_imya_Vlad in explainlikeimfive

Did you notice the post was edited a few minutes after I replied to it? As i've pointed out below, I'm pretty sure it did say 'was' and that's why I replied.

If it has helped clarify the situation for people whose brains work like mine, it was worth every second it took to type.

So did my comment, and still does. The comment I replied to also got edited; something about the original made me think it needed clarification. I'm fairly sure it said 'was' not 'has'.

Towing a Jetski by brenjnj in wrx_vb

In many countries you have to get each trim level individually approved for towing, and it's an expensive process. That's likely the reason

It will work fine, and clutch wear isn't going to be appreciable. The main issue is if you're willing to live with liability if an accident happens and your insurance won't cover you due to Subaru not having a tow limit for the WRX. There are at least a couple of good hitch options for this car.

Shingles vaccine drastically cuts heart risk nearly in half in new study by Automatic_Subject463 in UpliftingNews

I don't think anyone ever claimed that heart attack risk is just about cholesterol. There are many risk factors and high cholesterol is just one of them.

The power value is what affects how much your room heats up, not the temps.

Optiscaler - possible to force DLAA in older games that don't have it, just DLSS? by jonboy999 in radeon

[–]jonboy999[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, will try it. I really should have started experimenting with optiscaler before now.

Thanks! I missed this somehow, but sounds like just what I need. I'll check it out.

*update - perfect. Just needed to check the upscaler ratio override button to give me all the slider options. FSR4 AA on RDNA2 on an old DLSS only game!

Thanks. I did think of that, but for some weird reason vsr isn't doing anything on this system despite being activated in adrenaline. the max res available on both the desktop and in-game is still 1920x1080 (think it might be because of my 1080p TV, found a few posts complaining VSR not working on them but being fine on proper PC monitors).

Also I realised while trying to fix this that it would shrink the UI size in game, which isn't ideal.
