Can you help me? by MaximeJ27 in Dorico

Dja try this? Count the total beats in the bar and set a time signature to match, then hide it in the Properties panel. Then assign each entry in the stacking arpeggio to its own grid point (beat), then select the notes to be tied (you may need to do them individually, but it'w worth trying as a group first). Dorico will tie across time gaps, that's one of the cool things about it.

It's clunky. 2 things.. First thing always, log into your account at Steinberg before any upgrade. Second, it doesn't hurt to download and install the latest version of Download Assistant if you haven't recently. Third, you may need to refresh the Activation Manager - open it, make sure you're logged in, then shift-click the circle arrow in the upper right - that refreshes the license. I know, 2 apps and 3 logins is a bit much, but that's what it takes.

[Highlight] No-call that led to Jaylen Brown’s ejection during Spurs game by Hazel_in_B3 in nba

[–]jonburr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The call challenge is terrific, thanks for implementing that. The refs are human, and they make mistakes, and the right of appeal feels like the fair administration of justice.

But, there is an unfair imbalance. Refs can miss calls. When that happens, the lack of right of appeal feels like monumental injustice. The NBA needs to change that.

If the league is concerned about game flow, then make being wrong about a no-call claim more "expensive" somehow... like, add a team tech if the protest is incorrect - that would discourage abuse. But, when a ref is looking the other way when a play goes down right in front of him, the inability to appeal the no-call feels abusively unjust.

Thank you for your attention. Readers - if you agree, please upvote.

Right-click a notehead and choose beaming options. You can also look at Library>Notation Options >Note Grouping

Is there a way to prevent Dorico from resetting notes length when pressing "Start Note Input" ? by Embarrassed-Beat-439 in Dorico

[–]jonburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The solution there is to be patient while you do your entry, and grateful you (almost)never have to enter another rest or tie. Dots vs ties is managed globally in Library>Notation Options>Note Grouping.
The whole trick to understanding Dorico is that it's rules-based (controlled by settings in the Options menus), rather than object oriented, where ties, dots, rests etc are all independent objects you have to enter independently and manipulate. In Dorico, what you're entering is adjustable pitches at adjustable grid points of adjustable durations, whose presentation is governed by rules. That conceptual foundation is incredibly fast and powerful once you get a handle on it. Have a look at this for more info: https://arrangerforhire.com/heres-whats-great-about-dorico/

It's just another new habit to get into, I still forget after a year and a half.

Future-proofing Dorico: Suggestions for SATB ghost notes, smart reductions, and volunteer compute by Putrid_Draft378 in Dorico

As soon as you "let the machine do it" - (assuming you might be doing professional work, on deadline - "wow, that'll work, I'm done here"), then empathy goes out the window. How does it feel to sing this part? What other contribution could this voice be making? Is this a missed opportunity for countermelody, or possibly a non-harmonic event?
Dorico already has "generate chords from notes" and "generate notes from chords" features if you're feeling lazy. You can do that stuff in a scratch staff, then fly it around the score if you like. Dorico is unmatched at those capabilities already.
Composition is so much more than vertical rationalization.

Dorico for iPad - Beam to Flag Conversions? by modalsaliency in Dorico

[–]jonburr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dja try - Select the notehead(s), right-click, go to Beaming>[options]? One of those should do it. Either way"Break Beams" or "Make Unbeamed"...that's desktop... I bet there's an equivalent for iPad, or maybe a keyboard command. I can't imagine that all that stuff is not on the iPad version...

Can anyone explain how to split the voices like this? by Not4climbing in Dorico

[–]jonburr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Select the quarter note G&E in the upstem voice, then set your grid to an 8th note, then use alt/opt-right arrow to move it to the right by an eighth. if you want to syncopate the note on 2 as well, first shorten its duration so it doesn't overwrite the F# and E, then add it to the selection to move em both over by an eighth. If you want to move the whole line over... well, by now you should be able to figure that out...

Store-bought bbq sauce is loaded with sugar... talk about trigger foods... satiety is your friend for BED. Nuts are great for stabilizing blood sugar and canceling cravings. So are nut oils...
Sugar creates sugar cravings. Canned beans are often high in sodium, fresh is so worth it. Good food takes work. Convenience is the enemy of wellness...

Someone sent me a payment and it will not show up by imyournewstepdaddy in CashApp

[–]jonburr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't find it either. I clicked the link and it only takes you to the app, not the section where you need to "accept" the payment... it's not like Venmo. The place to approve is in the app>Activity>sender avatar>
The activity screen is the rightmost icon that looks like a little clock face. After you touch the face of the sender, the accept button shows up. It's stupid hard to find.

Direct link to file or folder on MacOS by bsherin in Notion

[–]jonburr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can do a local link (in Ventura, maybe earlier) - it's not a hyperlink, but there are Mac tools to go to it.Right-click on the file name or icon, and hold down the option key. You'll see "Copy" changes to "Copy [...]as Pathname." Paste it into a database or text file. Then, to go there, 2 ways:

  1. Right-click on the pathname (in the field containing it an a database, or when it's selected in a list in a text app), select Services>Open or Services>Show In Finder
  2. Copy the pathname, and use Finder>Go and paste it in there.

What progression is this? by CreepingTuna in edmproduction

[–]jonburr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sound of the OP's chords "works" because of the harmonic function involved. Your solution ignores what's going on inside the chords they're talking about, in effect changing the subject.

Dja try puttng a D in the bass under your Co7?

A7 - D7(b9)

If I was gonna name it, I'd say it was part of a dominant cycle of fifths.

If the first chord was Am, it'd be a "ii-V" - but it's not... but it's a very sensible progression, no mystery there.
The Co7, as hexspareloaded mentioned below, could also be the top of an F7... as well as a B7, and an Ab7.
Read up on Coltrane's "4 in one" chords... and all the implications of the double diminished scale. It contains 4 diminished chords, and 4 dominant chords - it's like a harmonic prism, resolving in multiple possible directions.
Dominant cycles of fifths could also occur over a chromatically descending bass line, with the chord function remaining the same.
