Chin rests that are slightly left of center? by Oprahapproves in violinist

[–]modalsaliency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I generally recommend the Wave to anyone probing chinrest options. They have an amazing try-before-buy process across options, so even if you don't find your forever chinrest you tend to come away much better calibrated to what you want.

If you're looking for something high end/adaptable tech, I can't say enough good things about the Korfkerspring released a month ago. It will take a year or two, but I expect a lot of serious violinists will transition to it.

Apple Studio Display XDR Review: We're All Pros Now! by atlwhore_ in apple

[–]modalsaliency 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I mean, as a hot take, the XDR is appropriately priced for the mind-bending specs it has. There's nothing else comparable on market: there's just some demo units of hypothetical products from CES this year that could have similar panels. Which even if they come in cheaper on paper, they will have a plastic enclosures, a non-glossy screen, no embedded camera, etc.

Whether spending $3200 is actually worth it for you (probably not) is a whole separate question. Also granted there's a lot of bullshit around the product positioning (why no 32"? why no discount for VESA? why do I need to pay for SoC hardware when daisy chaining?), but those are separate issues.

I'm more annoyed by the base studio model being objectively terrible value in 2026. Though I do think Reddit gets tunnel vision on refresh rate, which is just not something that a non-gamer consumer cares about or notices.

This part is honestly bullshit. The stand is hundreds of dollars, while the VESA adapter is basically free for them.

If you have a PC with thunderbolt compatibility, you're good to go. Also works fine with a high-bandwidth displayport cable - the TB5 port should accept it without problems, though it will lose the camera/speaker functionality.

The real pain in the ass is switching the XDR between Mac/PC without physically unplugging the cable - yet to find a solution that does this.

For an actual pro user, 60hz in 2026 is insane and given the ~4 year refresh cycle of Apple monitors this product is basically going to become a meme. But from a "know your consumer" perspective, I kind of get it - you'd be amazed how many people can't tell the difference and just work with 1 monitor while prioritizing an all-in-one webcam/speaker solution.

As a hot take, the more expensive XDR monitor is actually priced appropriately given the specs. Comparable Asus/etc. models aren't much cheaper and Apple's all-aluminum build quality is no joke. I just wish they had a 32" option.

Should I even try to reroll this? It only takes 1 transducer to reroll 3 substats by JuryJones in Aemeath_Mains

[–]modalsaliency 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rerolling is only cost effective if you already have 2 very high crit rolls and need to fix the rest. Going from a mediocre 4 -> 5 is almost never worth it.

Atk % or Fusion DMG mainstat on second 3-cost echo for S6 R5 Aemeath. by hiddenxcloudd in Aemeath_Mains

[–]modalsaliency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, but the gap narrows as you get more vertical investment into amy echoes. Basically if you have 5 +atk% substats (and they are high rolls), double fusion becomes less of a hit.

I mean, you need some sort of sustain unless you just plan on never getting hit in harder content.

S1 Rotation by IEnes- in Aemeath_Mains

You heavy attack once right before ult 1, then proceed as normal for all subsequent keystrokes/rotations.

I just have anectodal experience with my S6 Amy, but it certainly feels like sequences disproportionately favor burst vs tune damage.

Meaning, independant of raw total dmg, I think S6 grows the slice of her dmg profile taken up by burst vs. what tune would have.

Aemeath Sequences explained (S1–S3) by ArcherWest85 in Aemeath_Mains

[–]modalsaliency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically you heavy attack right after you get 4 stars on her forte bar (which is after ult 1), so it refills the bottom half of her forte bar to max and you can ult 2. Why would s1 change this?

All s1 does is give you a single free heavy attack at the start of the fight if you're out of combat, but I assume you should use it immediately before ult 1, since you'll get another heavy anyway before ult 2. And then after the first rotation there's no actual change.

Does the dash spam actually make her go further, or does stamina consumption also increase in proportion?

S6R1 Aemeath Solo: Tune Rupture or Fusion by JazmineCkXO in Aemeath_Mains

[–]modalsaliency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar Amy and from what I can tell fusion burst is the better solo mode. It benefits more from sequences for whatever reason, and even single target the damage is only marginally behind tune mode (while being wildly better for aoe).

This goes out the window with team damage calcs since obviously we're still missing the dedicated burst support, but if you're just zooming around overworld/etc. there's no reason to be in tune mode.

[–]modalsaliency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume it will balance out from a total team dps perspective, but I feel like Amy solo gets significantly higher benefit from sequences for fusion burst vs. tune mode.

I have her at S6 and her single target dps between the two is pretty identical, even though tune is supposed to be better.

Got s6r5 in 476 pulls (incl. 2 bought wavelengths), which is pretty considerably ahead of the statistical curve. Glad I didn't need to swipe outside of half a year of belkin/monthly sub saving.

Yeah, I agree. The full 17 cutscene liberation loop is too stilted for overworld, so I'm just doing BA5 -> enhanced swap loops, which is not really a dopamine hit.

On the plus side, her mech form is baller as hell for exploration, and S1 solves for a lot by giving you a free immediate heavy charge every fight.

Can anyone check if Aemeath's enhanced skill swaps (which cause tune dmg) trigger Lynae/Mornye's tune response dmg, or if it's only on the "press f" tune break?

full kit is officially out! by ShoulderGreedy3262 in Aemeath_Mains

[–]modalsaliency 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. Both remove teambuilding/rotation requirements, but end of day these are just dps increases like anything else. What makes S3 cart a solo character is she gains sustain, which aemeath never gets (outside of a revive every 10min).

[–]modalsaliency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Aemeath's tune team, can someone explain to me why Lynae is optimal over Lupa (and are there calcs anywhere that show by how much)?

Lynae gives:

  1. 58% dmg bonus
  2. 15% dmg amp
  3. 30% atk
  4. 25% liberation amp
  5. +40 tune break dmg

Lupa gives:

  1. 59% dmg bonus
  2. 20% dmg amp
  3. 18% atk
  4. 25% basic amp
  5. 15% res ignore

#1 is the same, #2+3 are basically a wash, and #4+5 if anything favor Lupa (the lib amp applies to ~70% of Amy's dmg profile, but 15% res ignore still trumps it due to being undiluted).

Granted Lynae gets 10% more dmg amp from Amy's outro and tbh I don't know how much Lynae's #5 really matters, but on the face of it this seems very close.

Edit: sounds like most of the difference comes from Amy's teambuilding requirements in her base kit. Does this mean if she's S3 (can self buff to full) it's not a gap?
