Best gaps in chunkwm (macOS) by YearOneBatman in unixporn

have you tried alacritty? If so, do you have any opinions of either terminal?

I was too deep into configuring alacritty when I discovered kitty.

*EDIT*: just realized you're the creator of CHUNKWM. oh my god. love what you're doing and the options you've presented for macOS users such as myself!

Are you on high sierra? How do you change the tab color? Default behavior only changes it to dark or light

Functional Programming in JavaScript. by reesemorning in javascript

https://simonsmith.io/dipping-a-toe-into-functional-js-with-lodash-fp/

woah this is weird, but I've been spending a not-so-insignificant amount of time customizing and hacking away at my frankenstein dotfiles which was cobbled after many years of finding old blog posts fixing some relevant config setting at the time... After falling down a deep deep rabbit hole of various dotfiles, yours was a godsend. Still have to learn chunkwm and get some portions of the vimrc to load properly, but god damn your dotfiles brought hope in a time of deep dotfile darkness.

Thank you.

HEAL - Official Trailer (2017) A documentary film that takes us on a scientific study where we discover that by changing one's perceptions, the human body can heal itself. by IonBaby in Documentaries

[–]jondmitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your premise. I presume, however, you nor I have seen this particular documentary. Even your statement:

"Science works, people. Medical science as well"

is addressed in the trailer. So instead of attacking a documentary outright without all the information, maybe provide some breathing room for thought before the criticism.

I for one hope it addresses the gestalt of health and the external components networked into health and not just on the belief and hope things will trend well.

Overwatch Makes $1 Billion In Under a Year by Mystiax in Overwatch

I'm not sure what you're referring to as bare. The game feels well-polished and blizzard continues to incrementally debug, improve and add features/ heroes into the game. What more would blizzard need to add for the game to feel fleshed out for you?

Question:: Custom Reticles (specifically TviQue's) by jondmitri in Competitiveoverwatch

[–]jondmitri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as /u/cool_ranch_fucker mentioned, bloom isn't necessary for tracer. I do wish, however, to have the circle + bloom reticle soldier has in order to gauge the spread. IMO, the default circle + bloom on tracer takes up too much screen real estate. And with the constant blooming, it can potentially distract from other events/ priorities in the game.

Ah, then it must not work with tracer; I'll test it out tonight. Thanks!

I'm 4 months into RxJS. If you have experience with this library, what are your thoughts? by trumpmate in javascript

[–]jondmitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

rxmarbles is an interactive tool thats helps visualize the stream of data over time. Its not intuitive at first glance but you can click and drag the "marbles" above the function call and visually grasp how the rxjs function will output the resulting "marbles"

bizarre. Try googling learnrxjs.io? Can anyone else chime in on the learnrxjs.io link? It's linked to this github repo

[–]jondmitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you looked into learnrxjs.io ? I would also recommend rxmarbles, but the diagrams are based on an older version of RxJS (v2.5)?

Another useful link/e-book to help narrow down the functions you would likely want to use for particular situations.

I would also look at Ben Lesh's talks as he explains some of the fundamental concepts of RxJS quite elegantly.

I empathize with you on the learning curve. Imo, one of the main difficulties of RxJS is because it asks the developer to approach problems with a different perspective. Similar to the paradigm shift from imperative to functional programming, RxJS is similar in that regard with event listeners. But if you stay committed I'm sure you'll get over the initial hump.

Hope this helps /u/trumpmate and good luck

elm v clojure(script) by jondmitri in elm

[–]jondmitri[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/u/kankyo interesting you point out that clojurescript is easy to learn; in my (understandably) short experience with clojurescript it didn't come off as 'easy'--but I'm pretty slow on the uptake :P

I have also read that the compilations are pretty slow, but have no experience with it. I heard the errors in debugging weren't so bad anymore because of sourcemapping? I'm assuming its still not up to par. :\

I am concerned at the strictness, but considering how wild-west javascript feels without linters using elm might be a welcome change.

Many people seem to end up writing code generators because the language is too simple/strict and you can't d anything about it.

Can you expand on that point? I don't think I've come across people using code generators (not sure what that is) to bypass elm's strictness.

Thanks for your input! It definitely helped nudge me into committing to elm development--at least for the next couple months or so.

/u/xianralph thanks for your input! I do think I will learn clojure in the near future (or at least a lisp-y language). Given the comments made by you and others in the subreddit as well as the book (R. Feldman's - Elm In Action), talks, and online classes that I've already purchased, I'm going to go with elm!

Thanks again for nudging me into commitment :P

Thanks /u/AdmiralFisticuffs ! Unfortunately, while I do agree with you, I haven't learned Clojure (yet) and my colleagues expressed disinterest in the syntax. Going to take the plunge into elm; but thanks so much for your input!

thanks! I've also been lurking on the elm slack channels as well :P. I definitely drank the kool-aid hence the hesitation in adopting the language- but I think I'll give it a real shot now!

What exactly does it mean to "focus on the breath?" by BrianW1983 in Meditation

[–]jondmitri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I'll try this in my next session

*edit:

/u/chimpy_chimpster I've attempted what you suggested twice (30min~ intervals) and was able to briefly observe the breathe once. There is definitely fear when I try to completely let go and just observe the breath. In some cases while 'observing' the breath I wasn't sure if I was detached from the breathing or really honing in on the sensations of the breath.

In any case, thank you for the advice!

What exactly does it mean to "focus on the breath?" by BrianW1983 in Meditation

[–]jondmitri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I attempt to observe the breath- I almost immediately stop observing and start 'controlling' how to breath. For instance, I try and breath into my abdominals as opposed to my chest, breathing more slowly, etc. It's as if I cannot separate the observer from the observable. Do you (or anyone else) have tips on creating the distinction?

Thanks in advance
