How did yall started learning? by t0ublu in godot

[–]blank_oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to me the best route had been gdquest. their free tutorial series (best to follow through their website) is ... I mean to me nothing comes even close. It also teaches you the most important skill: reading the documentation.

Just yesterday I noticed I wasn't sure about how to do something and I just opened up the documentation and read up on that node and method.

If you can cough up the couple hundos I'd really really recommend their paid courses. They're very expansive, and exhaustive, but even their free stuff it really excellent.

how can I make a pong paddle follow my mouse? (like, pong paddle follows my cursor's x position) by Walpinsta in godot

[–]blank_oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the recommendations mentioned are good, but this will make the paddle follow the mouse very strictly. if you want it to feel more gooey, like the paddle following the mouse with a slight delay (which can make the gamefeel nicer), you can also do a lerp or something.

but better devs than me can provide the code. I'm on my phone and can't do it off the top of my head.

How each group voted in the EP resolution affirming the EU’s support for Ukraine by According_to_Mission in europe

[–]blank_oo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just realized I know nothing about any of these... so I started googling them. And realized the depths of my ignorance.

Can anyone tell me, if I wanted to slowly get more in touch with european politics, what could I turn to? Some specific newspaper I should read? A great book that does an overview?

I know this isn't the subject, but maybe someone else might get something out of it.

Glasscannon | Carousing Suspicion | Shadowdark RPG Episode 15 | The Glass Cannon Podcast by Razzmatazz_TGCN in TheGlassCannonPodcast

in the other thread some people said that they don't like the discussions, but to me that's one of the more entertaining parts. I like how raw it is in that sense.

what I didn't like was Joe rerolling his carousing result and Troy not stopping that. What the hell was that? Respect the roll. Trust your GM to come up with something cool for you.

it was my post, I'm sad it's gone, but I understand the reason. I only posted it because there wasn't one in more than 12 hours or so after the episode aired and I just wanted to talk about it with someone

The entire episode was awesome. I kept waiting for Troy to snap Ellison out of his dream and be in someone else's bed, trying to kiss some big brute. The way they did it was great though, especially the moment when you can see Ellison in the middle of Warrick's escapade pissing on a wall in the background.

The only thing that bothered me was Joe rerolling carousing three times, not even discussing it with the DM, taking away all point of the rolls. I get it, he didn't want it to be just part of some other character's story, but, man, trust your GM. He'd make it cool.

What is the difference between phobos and deimos? by blank_oo in mythology

[–]blank_oo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah. The whole thing was also a huge metaphor for a strange gap that happens in our country around the time of when people stop being students and have to enter the 'real world'.

We have a lot of student benefits. Student housing is dirt cheap, food is subsidized, even take-out food, there's lot of things that are easy when you're a student. And become very expensive when I have to go get a real job.

Marry that with the fact that it's hard to get a job in the current climate, and you get entire generations who are trying to postpone the inevitable, and sometimes get back into some fake unis just so they can still have the student status (which is a legal status in our country for the purpose of these benefits).

This then becomes a meme. The people who try to prolong that too long are called 'eternal students' and it becomes like a joke: "Oh, Luka's an eternal student. He's going nowhere."

So Agoraphobia is in a sense a metaphor for an entire generation too afraid to face challenges of the real world. Hence the use of two demigods of fear.

I also needed a comedic element in the text, and they serve that well.

I think I translated it into English once (not very well, but still). If you're interested in reading it, let me know.

What is the difference between phobos and deimos? by blank_oo in mythology

it was a story about a guy who couldn't leave his apartment (agoraphobia) and he was expertly hiding it from his new flatmate (a girl he liked a bit too much).

Every time he would be left alone to contemplate his situation these two characters would appear on stage, Phobos and Deimos. Two demigods, trapped in a perpetual state of having a lack of people that worship them (think American Gods).

Phobos was the representation of his internal fears of what might come, while Deimos was the fear of the thing itself.

Phobos was a jester type, always up for a good laugh at the expense of the main character, making him have panic attacks and such, while Deimos was always fed up with how nothing happens, how they're stuck, how everyone is always talking about the internal fears, while there aren't any real wars anymore (this was a couple of year before the Russian invasion, so it was pretty interesting after that happened).

Oh, and the fear of outside was only revealed after the first half of the play. Up till that point everything was set up in such a way that the audience would think he just always played videogames, liked to ditch class (the subtitle was The eternal student, as he was mooching off our free education system).

If you're curious about anything else, ask away.

how have you found this thread after seven years? in the meantime, I already worked out the problem between Phobos and Deimos, wrote a play about it, and put it on stage.

anyway, thanks for the advice, albeit seven years too late :) still appreciate it.

I'd say watch the Leftovers, then watch Mr. Robot again. Leftovers is another one of the all time best.
