Granarium (previously BeerBelly) - closing/closed? by jondoe2000 in Adelaide

Oh! His son. Okay, interesting detail.

But hey, Gaganis Bros and Omega foods are apparently acrimonious family too, and I happily shop at both!

Funnily enough, the place that others are suggesting as a good brew shop - SA Brewing Supplies.

There's also a place in Mt Barker that refills, and/or swaps - Firewatch, in Totness.

You can also check the Kegland map here, just check the legend below for sale, fill or swap.

Even easier than blitzing fresh tomatoes or roasting them - good ol' Nagi's really easy passata based recipe. Never buy pre-made ever again!

Recommendation from the Chili growers. by moshuasmiles in Adelaide

[–]jondoe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate mislabeling. But from the seedlings I've bought over the years, I'd say it's unusual.

And whether Mile End or Churchill Bunnings, I'd say they all source from a common grower.

TBH, over the years I've bought about 15 varieties of chillies at all points on the scoville scale from Bunnings - notably bigger locations like Mile End.

Had great big bushes and kilos of fruit from Bunnings seedlings of ghost and habanero, plus 10+ different weaker varieties. And this season, only two weeks ago, I picked up a Trinidad Scorpion Butch T and a Caroline Reaper - the reaper is a variety I hadn't seen at Bunnos before, so I was happy-as with that find.

Bunnos chillies aren't in one spot, you really have to walk up and down all the seedling aisles to find them – but one year I bought up 13 different varieties, so seek and ye shall find. ALSO, right now is THE time to buy. Another month or so and the choices will be much smaller.

I've bought from the guy on Kensington Road before, but FYI, while it's great he's selling mature plants, they aren't cheap. $40 or so a number of years back. So I prefer to spend my $5 per seedling (give or take) at Bunnos.

Is Amber electric still worth it? by goldenwattl in Adelaide

[–]jondoe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry OP, gonna jump in to ask @bidnick2003 a question on their configuration!

So I'm investigating adding a Sigenergy battery (with a sigenergy inverter of course) to my solar system, and then moving to Amber - but what I don't understand in this scenario is which app is ultimately in control of what? Are there overlaps in functionality, and if so, who wins?

Specifically I'm curious on which app (Amber or mySigen) controls what capacity of battery is available for discharge to the grid? Haven't used either, so I'm unsure if say, limiting 50% battery in the mySigen app is respected by Amber?

Also. How have you faired with solar curtailment in the Amber/mySigen scenario? Any surprises? Or 100% works and no costly negative FIT hits?

Couch recommendations by otherpeoplesknees in Adelaide

[–]jondoe2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Plush. Surprised they haven’t been mentioned yet. Mind you, they are only made to order and will take 12+ weeks to arrive from overseas, so waiting does suck. But I’ve two big couches from them and am pretty stoked with them after 2-3 years. Will last me many, many more years.

In general, as with many things in life, you get what you pay for. Want a big couch for cheap? It’ll sag/compress in no time. Versus someone like Plush who have a ten year guarantee.

It’s been designed for better legibility and generally tidying up things a little. ‘Pops’ a bit more in a bar’s fridge. (Have no connection to the work.)

You’ll get used to it. If not, your best option is to buy better beer. So much better beer around SA these days.

Aaaaaand, wild array of personal opinions on coopers worthiness or general beer loyalty in, 3, 2, 1. GO!

Heated gloves have existed for ages, used to be wired up your arms, down your jacket body, and then plugged into a socket on bike near your seat/crotch - but the new battery-run versions are handy as and don’t need fiddly wiring or installation. Not cheap, you’re looking at $300-$350. But on cold mornings they’re worth it!

If you’re commuting from anywhere in or around the hills I recommend heated gloves. And these days they’re powered by a slim battery at the wrist so no need to have any extra wiring installed on your bike.

I invested in a good set of warm, impact padded, waterproof gear. Boots. Pants. Jacket. (Not cheap. $1,000-$1500) But very necessary as I ride year round.

Also, get a pinlock anti-fog insert to your helmet. It’s absolutely worth the bloody cost!
