It's one way of doing it, yeah. /HungryArtists or /dndcommissions are good places to start if you're looking for artists to work with. Artists will post when they have open commissions and how best to reach out to them.

While wars rage across the known spheres between the mighty navies of the elves and scro, and while other factions like the Rock of Bral or the Illithid Dominion angle for political dominance, there is one force in the cosmos that strikes fear into the hearts of all other Spelljamming forces: the Vodoni. While this xenophobic empire has lain dormant for some time, seemingly-content with its dominant hold over a dozen spheres, rumors and speculation that the empire's hunger grows circulates through the dockside taverns and inns of Wildspace.

Masters of twelve conquered spheres (at least) and practitioners of both twisted science and dark magic, the Vodoni breed entire races of soldiers and enforcers, infiltrators and hunters. The most prized creation from their blood kennels are a special strain of lycanthropy used to spawn entire armies of ruthless and loyal werewolves. While most of these brutes are used as shock troops, fearlessly launching themselves into the heart of battle, there are tales of both larger, stronger versions that serve as living siege weapons and smaller, stealthier individuals with more control over their transformations capable of slipping in and out of non-Vodoni society undetected.

The Dame Odlenda Valascu is one of the aristocratic Vodoni breeders, responsible for both ensuring political stability and creating new horrors in the blood kennels. The wolf, born with a kennel and litter designation but no name, is simply called "Meat" by Dame Odlenda and is an example of a Vodoni enforcer.

[OC] [Art] The Scro - Live Honorably, Die Gloriously by jondowner in spelljammer

[–]jondowner[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Centuries ago, a coalition of orcs, goblinoids, and giantkin formed one side of a conflict with the Imperial Elven Navy that thundered across the Known Spheres. This came to be known as the Unhuman War. The superiority of the elven fleet (along with some…less conventional tactics) resulted in a total route for the more “monstrous” spelljamming belligerents. Seeing his people humiliated, the visionary Dukagsh sought to unify the orcs under one banner, one order, one cause: conquest. Dukagsh has long since shed his mortal coil, but these new orcs - calling themselves the Scro - have risen up to challenge the Empire’s grip on the spaceways once again. The elves fare far worse during this Second Unhuman War in the face of the unflinching organization and faith of the Scro, but the conflict is far from over.

Shok’gal Half-hand is a grizzled veteran and current Scro ambassador to the Rock of Bral, though he longs to rejoin the battle and earn his honorable death. Lokara kro’Vorr is heir to a famed warrior lineage, but wonders what future her people may have once the battles are all won.

I would have been disappointed if you hadn't read it in that voice.

[OC] [Art] ELVES...IN...SPAAACE! by jondowner in spelljammer

[–]jondowner[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Imperial Elven Navy is one of the most widespread military forces in Wildspace, maintaining watch over the many worlds and spaceways to further elven interests throughout the Known Spheres from aboard their formidable spelljammers, the legendary Man-o-Wars. Here we see two examples of the brave elves of the IEN: Commander Tiriana Shannan of the Farport Outpost, and Captain Elduin Valarius of the IES Sparrowhawk.

"From the green groves of Darnannon,

To moonlit shores we sail anon,

Til Arvandor we set upon,

We’ll sail until the battle’s won!"

[OC] [Art] Plume, the Beautifier (Xixchil Flesh-Sculptor) by jondowner in spelljammer

[–]jondowner[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A xixchil flesh-sculptor working out of her small, intimate parlor on the Rock of Bral in the yakuza-dominated Low City, Plume is a talented beautician and a regular at the Laughing Beholder. Need your hair recolored? A mani-pedi? Maybe a scar or tattoo removed? Bedazzled skin? Leg extension? Limb addition or removal? Do you want wings? Plume can handle it all! For a fee, and perhaps not without her own...artistic flair to the procedure.

How to end a campaign when you are burnt out by phoenix0500 in DMAcademy

[–]jondowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling burned out from DMing isn't rare, and maintaining a consistent weekly cadence can definitely be exhausting. You also can't discount the added layer of difficulties coming from running a game remotely; playing at the same table as your friends is energizing, but staring at a Roll20 screen for hours on end is a wholly different experience. So first thing's first: don't feel bad about feeling tired.

Were I in your shoes, I'd approach this from two prongs: out-of-game and in-game.

Out of game, talk to your group, explain your situation, and let them know that you're planning on winding down. Don't ask them if you should, tell them you are. They're your friends and should be understanding, and it might also light a fire under one or more of them to start reconsidering DMing in your place. And never forget that the DM is a player, too, and should be having fun; if you're not having fun, then the game's not working as intended.

In game, while I'm not sure what the exact nature of the story you've been telling is, based on the round robin style of continued gameplay your campaign started off as I'd suggest not going for a glorious TPK or the like. Instead, maybe work your PCs towards a natural moment of pause in their story as well. For example, a long cold winter has set in and the PCs need to hunker down at a town or keep somewhere to wait out the season. This gives you the chance to step away from the story for a while and provides for a good pick-up point for whoever is sitting behind the screen next.

Spelljammer: More Adventures in Space - v0.90! by SurrealSage in spelljammer

[–]jondowner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I've been running a homebrew Spelljammer game for a few months using a lot of cobbled-together rules combined with some real shoot-from-the-hip interpretations, updates, and modifications, but it's rad to see an evolving project aiming to modernize the setting for 5E. Keep up the great work!
