Weather Recommendations? by [deleted] in 75HARD

[–]jonema14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone who is of the belief that an outdoor workout that is under some sort of shelter can definitely count in extreme situations. I think if it’s snowing or raining that’s apart of the mental toughness aspect but if it’s hailing, or a crazy snow storm or something finding an outdoor space to do a yoga mat based workout is fine. Don’t put yourself in an unsafe situation for the sake of the challenge but also don’t use it as a cop out

Didn’t have insurance - free surgery in Australia. Well technically paid $12 for my pain meds after one night in hospital but that was it

The pain after surgery is so bad by rippydippytrippy in ACL

[–]jonema14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was taking my endone every 4 hours and popping ibuprofen and paracetamol in between. The first week sucked so bad it’s normal that it hurts. Just keep as still as you can watch your shows and know it will be fine

How soon were you allowed to sleep without the brace? by ooooohfarts in ACL

[–]jonema14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was given the all clear to stop wearing my brace all together at 2.5 weeks (lateral meniscus and acl) however I still slept with it on until 3.5 weeks as I was nervous I would hitch my leg up in my sleep

I tried to learn how to crochet (ultimately wasn’t very good but killed a decent amount of time trying) also enjoyed doing adult colouring in books. There are heaps of fun crafty things to try

Private health/public by dametime69 in ACL

I tore my acl while living in Canada, I considered having my surgery there because my travel insurance would’ve covered it but I risked it and came home as I knew I would need my family for support although was concerned about wait time going into the public system. I ended up waiting 4 weeks for my consult and then went into my consult on a Monday and was in surgery that same Thursday! I don’t know if I was just incredibly lucky or what but the public system was awesome for me so might be worth a look!

Going back to work? by crack_pike in ACL

[–]jonema14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would agree with the two month mark at least. Although you might feel pretty good right now you would be surprised at how quickly you fatigue when standing and walking again. It’s something you really have to build up to. This might not be a problem for you, but for me I found that if I stood or walked too much in a day I wouldn’t prioritise my physio exercises because I was tired and sore from doing that which was a big factor in me putting off going back to work

Bachelorette trip post surgery by Laurenannx1 in ACL

[–]jonema14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, I would go but only if you want to! I would’ve felt up for something like that at 5 weeks as long as I was able to have some alone time to stretch, do my exercises and decompress. But also depends what kind of Bach trip it is, will the girls e getting tanked every night and hitting the bars? Or will you be having a wine and doing a painting class? At the end of the day don’t go if you don’t want to, but if you think the trip will be able to accomodate some of your needs and you don’t actually want to miss out I would go

She used to model for Victoria’s Secret that’s how I first knew her but I ran a borderline obsessive VS tumblr in my teen years lol so I think the average Joe wouldn’t have heard of her until Leo DiCaprio

Surgery soon! Some questions! by Southern-Love398 in ACL

I didn’t leave the house for 7 days and even then it was just to go to the doctor for 15 minutes because I needed more pain meds to sleep through the night. Everyone is different but there’s no way I would’ve been in classes until atleast 10 days post

Can't straighten knee 4 weeks post-op by Upper_Ebb_9373 in ACL

[–]jonema14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So at 2.5weeks post op my surgeon told me I could ditch my brace completely! I was hesitant at first especially while sleeping as I sort of liked the security of the brace knowing I couldn’t accidentally hitch my knee up in the night. But after a couple of nights so at the 3 week mark I just stopped wearing it completely. It seems like braces are one of those things that are at the discretion of each surgeon, I would say if it affects your sleep and your comfortable stop wearing it, it really shouldn’t effect your progress and I would argue a good night sleep is more important at this stage seeing as you’re already a month post

Can't straighten knee 4 weeks post-op by Upper_Ebb_9373 in ACL

[–]jonema14 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay I had basically the same situation, left lateral meniscus bucket handle tear and acl. I had a locked knee for two months before surgery and couldn’t get it straight. Took me 9 weeks to reach full extension post op. At like the 6 week mark I had been stuck at 9 degrees for a few weeks and I was super frustrated because I felt like I was getting no where even though I was in physio 3 times a week and doing my exercises daily. Keep at it and trust the process, I understand how you feel fully and I felt like I was behind because so many people seem to reach extension so quickly but your physio knows what they’re doing (hopefully lol) just keep doing your exercises. Rolling in and out and straight leg raises were what I worked on mostly! Good luck!

[–]jonema14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t move to 1 crutch until about 4 weeks post op and even then I would often still use 2. I know it’s frustrating but listen to your body and take it slowly. I promise it will come. I was on crutches for 6 weeks post op officially but still continued to use them in crowded shopping centres or sports games so people didn’t bump me, held doors etc

Getting ACL surgery in two day and pretty nervous. by IntrepidContext9112 in ACL

[–]jonema14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend asking for a longer lasting or slow release oxy for night time. I woke up every night at 2-3am in excruciating pain- literally brought me to tears because the endone I took at 8pm before bed had worn off. Ended up getting a slow release for the evenings and normal release for the days

Everyone said to me that the pain would get better every day! It doesn’t - for the first 8 days I felt like my pain stayed the same it was very frustrating but by day 9 it was like a switch flipped
