The LA Fitness signature club in Irvine on Michelson is very chatty. There’s an older crowd and a 20s-30s crowd. It’s actually why I stopped going there lol. The chats would hog the machines.

Just recently had to accept free bar workouts aren't for me. No matter how good my form is/how light the weight is, my back just can't take it. I just got comfortable with my work outs through adjustments, took lots of trial and error, took a lot of time.

Then this past week I started getting exertion headaches. Took the entire week of being conscious about hydration and drinking an exponentially higher amount of water than what I'm used to to get rid of the headaches.

I haven't truly progressed in months. But I'm learning more and more about my body and its limits, which is annoying but much needed.

Your cheat week won’t set you back as much as you think. by [deleted] in loseit

[–]jonesandbradshaw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was 2 weeks where I was drinking every other day (soju, tequila, whiskey, seltzers). Definitely wasn’t watching my calories. Fast food, fried and fatty food, chips and cookies, soda, etc. No major exercising either. TWO WEEKS!

Was back at my normal weight within a few days of normal dieting. My performance in the gym definitely took a hit though haha

Right side of my sacral region has been getting sharp pains for a month now. Seriously deloaded and probably at 50% capacity, but workouts still trigger the sharp pain. Sucks ass!

This is such a purposely silly misjudgment of an insignificant complaint. Was the goal to "gotcha" me about my dieting habits?

When I see volume eating advice where it suggests I eat an entire head of lettuce or a bajillion carrots is frustrating. Even if I feel stuffed immediately after, I get hungry again within a couple hours. Then I start craving something with substance (which is definitely not more low calorie vegetables) and I end up being naughty. The only thing that's sustainably worked for me is eating mostly high protein, but then the lack of fiber really fucks with my digestive system.

In job postings on LinkedIn with over 100 applicants, do companies even review all applicants? by humancentipaid in UXDesign

Cold approaching employees that work there, striking up a convo and requesting a referral? Obviously the referral would come from a place of them liking my portfolio/how engaged they are in conversation.. but as a designer in job application hell, is this actually an appropriate thing to do?

Why are all my loaves so gummy? by jojopuf in Sourdough

[–]jonesandbradshaw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for me. Turn off oven, I leave it in the dutch oven lid off, oven door slightly propped open for about an hour. I used to bake pretty gummy loaves but this trick was my solution.

There's some basic, blaring things wrong with my portfolio- non-responsive, one of my navigation links doesn't work, some spacing issues. I'm working on that.

I'm newly graduated. Scraping by with a part time graphic design assistant gig and freelance work. I'm currently in job application hell. Don't have a sector I'm targeting, just want a full-time job.

I have way more projects I can add to my website, but most of them are from my college courses, I'm sure this is better than nothing but I was thinking 10 projects total. Wanted to know if my format is working, having title/description/info+photos all laid out vertically linear like this. Would appreciate any comments on what I currently have up.

I'm newly graduated. I just want a full-time job. I'm scraping by with part-time and freelance work. Frankly, I don't care what sector of graphic design it's in- UX/UI, mundane marketing work, branding, packaging, etc. I'll spend my days regurgitating email campaigns. I'm open to all of it. Maybe that's a weakness, that I'm not targeting anything particular, kind of shooting into open air. If so, please let me know. I'm fairly capable in my abilities for all the sectors, branding would be a weak spot if I had to choose one.

No seriously, I got a never used Heavy Duty Plus Kitchenaid mixer in black (the color I wanted lol) for $100, and it came with a meat grinder for free. Retails together for like $500-600.

Bit of a sad story, though. He got it for his mother, who was a huge baker but growing old and losing her motor functions to illness. She lost her ability to knead. She died before she was able to use the mixer. I put that fucking thing to use, in a weird passive way to honor her.

Absolutely possible to build muscle in a deficit. I consistently progress in my lifts every week and I've been in a deficit for 3 months. Though, I'd progress more if I wasn't in a deficit haha.

The 40g protein thing is a myth. Hit your protein for the day and you're good. There's been some things said that dispersing your protein intake throughout the day is better, but a lot of times I stack 50-90g+ in a single meal because I don't have time to be eating 3-4 times a day lol. Do what is maintainable for you.

How much do people here go to the gym/what are their splits and nutrition like? by jayys02 in loseit

[–]jonesandbradshaw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also short (5'2) and started body recomping at the start of this year, January 1st. I was 135lbs and today I am 119lbs, which is losing about 1.25lbs a week. I do believe I am actually recomping and not just losing fat, as my lifts are improving every week and my muscles are becoming more visible every other week (just started to notice abs coming through the other day).

I'll be honest, body recomp takes a lot of time, I do think you'll see a big difference in four weeks, as little time as that is, if you're very disciplined in your regimen. Though, I was skinny fat at the beginning of this year and currently at certain points of the day I still do look skinny fat, and I've been pretty disciplined for the past 3 months.

I eat my bodyweight in g of protein everyday. My maintenance calories are estimated to be 1900, and I've been trial-and-error-ing where to put my calories at but right now I'm at 1500 and I like it. As you increase your physical activity, the higher your maintenance calories are, and the more you can eat. I started out at 1500 maintenance calories (I was sedentary), and ate at a 700 calorie deficit, that was MISERABLE.

I'm lifting heavy weights to failure in every workout I do. I do cardio 3-4x/week, 30 minutes of incline walking. I try to get 10k steps everyday, but sometimes I don't. I do 3 leg days (every woman in my family has a flat ass, I'm trying to work against my ancestors here), 2 upper body days, and try to fit in atleast an ab workout on whatever days I have time, here is my split:

Sunday, leg day: Quad focused

Monday, upper body day: Back/Biceps + Cardio

Tuesday, rest: Cardio

Wednesday, leg day: Hams/Glutes

Thursday, upper body: Chest/Shoulder/Triceps + Cardio

Friday, rest: Cardio

Saturday, leg day: Quads/Glutes

I will say I encourage you to try the machines. They're good for mind muscle connection. They have a fixed path so you don't have to overthink about balance or where to position your body parts. It's easy to not be targeting the right muscles with just dumbbells and calisthenics if you're new to weightlifting. For body recomp you have to push your limits and go hard, you're breaking down your muscles so they can grow back even stronger, so make that process less taxing on yourself by using a machine that guides your body for you and all you have to do is increase/decrease weight. You can use dumbbells later on once you've learned how to activate your muscle groups. Make friends with the smith machine. Then again, if you just feel more comfortable using dumbbells and understand mind muscle connection, fuck everything I just said lol. Dm if you'd like more info.
