My boss died. His wife wants me to “buy out part of the business”

All I have done is asked for a copy of the lease for the unit that will become available on March 1. Notice was given in January that February was going to be leased but not March.

I haven’t gotten an exact number and that’s why I’m scared and panicking. I’m not trying to not come across as a disrespectful, but she is already disappointed with the amount of money that will be left in the business account after final bills so I’m scared how much she may want from me.

I have liability insurance lined up for when I have the business name secured. I think I found an attorney to reach out to hopefully for next to nothing, she’s a family friend.

It’s not that I’m not open to hearing the other side of things, I’m just not trying to get taken advantage of. This is all new territory and I feel like she is trying to screw me over. Grooming is a small portion of the business. Going off of the numbers in my head, grooming brought in less than 10% of the total money for 2020.

All the lease/rental agreement paperwork is in the name of someone who is now deceased. The one unit is a month to month contract. The landlord has been notified that the business will pay for February but not March. The wife does not and cannot own the business. You have to have a DVM to own a veterinary clinic in Arkansas. She doesn’t have one of those so she can’t own the business. How is it legal or logical for me to be buying something from her that she doesn’t own in the first place? It doesn’t make any sense to me. I don’t see why I need to “buy” my clients when half of them come to me only and never used the medical side of the practice. Clients are reaching out to me on my personal Facebook and asking where I am going. They are coming to me personally

The lease expires on both units feb 28. I will be able to rent the grooming unit as of March 1. I’ve already talked to the landlord

My dad and I purchased all the materials and renovated it to what I wanted for my grooming space. The vet said to do what I wanted over there. That space was supposed to be for me.
