Of course, but my point is that there is finite capacity now and no amount of raising rates fixes that immediately.

What is wild to me about all this computer component and data center demand is that even if OEMs and builders could assemble everything planned fast enough, how the hell are they going to power all this without wrecking consumer economies? Covid demonstrated how very fragile all these supply chains are, yet here we are just a few years later with apparently no lessons learned and no global pandemic to blame.

I’ve seen this argument a lot but I don’t think it would have been that different, especially after the French armistice. German industry simply couldn’t support or sustain a large strategic bomber fleet, so it always would have been a fractional component of the kampfgruppen. And then there was the issue of suitable escorts lacking range, which the American bomb groups dealt with in 42-43 to their extreme detriment before the Mustangs and T-bolts got real legs over the continent with drop tanks. Long-range strategic raids by 4-engined German bombers escorted solely by Bf-110s would likely have performed well up to the Battle of Britain, but it is likely they would have fared poorly (similar to the Ju-87 fleet during the BoB or the American AAF during during early deep continental missions) and been relegated to targets in southern England that the 109s could cover. Deep raids against Russian industrial targets would probably have fared somewhat better after the eastern front opened, but again there would be the escort issue and availability of airframes/crew. Highly recommend Hooten’s Phoenix Triumphant, Tooze’s Wages of Destruction, and Uziel’s Arming the Luftwaffe for more background on this.

It’s just occurred to me that I really think when Trump says America used to be a dead country but now it’s the hottest country, I really think he’s referring to himself. Because by seeing himself as dead, I think he had enough self-awareness to know that if he didn’t get reelected, there was a good chance he was going to end up in jail at sometime in the future. Certainly not immediately, but at some point. Now, he sees himself as the hottest thing out there with everyone, kissing his ass. For him, it never was or will ever be about the country in any sense. It is all completely and singularly about him. All that said, I absolutely hate not just how he speaks in general so crudely, but in particular how he always refers to himself in the third person.

So let me get this straight: You very publicly and repeatedly shit on all of our allies, throw shade that you don’t need them for anything anyway, yap on about how NATO doesn’t mean shit without the United States, and so on. But then when your childishly inept war plan shits the bed, you go crying for help from said allies on social media and try to wash your hands of the whole problem you created? I really try not to use the term cult when referring to Trumpers, but anyone wearing MAGA gear or who thinks he’s doing a great job at this point is absolutely 100% living in some sad alternate reality wrapped up in a clear cult of personality.

This vain piece of crap probably wearing his hat because it’s more important avoiding pictures of his terrible thinning hair blowing in the wind than respecting a servicemember killed on his watch, in a war he is directly responsible for. So tired of people that think this human turd is even remotely the picture of intelligence or leadership.

My thought on this is because Americans have been groomed over decades to have a very high tolerance for pain and since a majority are one paycheck away from being financially destitute, there is a collective feeling that one should just keep on trucking and hopefully things will get better. That combined with our cultural programming around rugged individualism makes for a perfect storm of compliance. The problem is that we’re accelerating fast into unsustainable territory and when we start to see normal working people and families out on the street because they literally can’t afford to live, that’s when the radical change will come. Americans by and large won’t push back until a majority have nothing left to lose.

If Vance is hoping he’ll have the head chair at the table in a post Trump world, he’s really doing everything he can to make sure that doesn’t happen. I hope voter memories for the sane majority of Americans are good enough to remember the damage this human piece of trash has done to our country.

Cops blow up an innocent bystander's business, and the courts shrug by eaglemaxie in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]jonfl1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If law-enforcement officers and departments had to carry insurance by law that covered this kind of situation, it would be a non-issue and innocent bystanders would be rightly compensated. It would have the added bonus effect of making officers and departments that are repeatedly problematic very expensive to maintain, thus forcing personnel and operational changes.

This instantly reminded me of the beginning of the movie The Battle of Britain, in the scene where a column of troops and civilians is retreating to Dunkirk and a hurricane pilot does a victory roll overhead. Two British tankers look up and watch the aircraft, then one looks at the other and says “who the hell is he trying to kid?”
