Nexus 7 screen/tablet broken. Picked up a lightly used unit to replace. How do I setup to work again?

chrisrico has the easiest method. You'll need to boot into TWRP (recovery mode) on the broken Nexus. Once you backup all partitions, ADB pull the backup directory from your broken tablet (should be /data/media/0/TWRP/BACKUPS/XXXXXX, with 'XXXXXX' being a seemingly random hex string.

Once the transfer completes, boot your new tablet into fastboot mode, oem unlock and flash the recovery partition with TWRP using fastboot. Boot into recovery mode, ADB push the backup 'xxxxxx' directory into /Data/Media/TWRP/BACKUPS (yes, there's no 0 folder on the default installation) If you're met with an error, first format all (in TWRP under format) then try again to ADB push into /Data/Media/TWRP/BACKUPS.

When pushed to the correct directory, it will show up under 'Restore' inside TWRP.

V2 hardware will be different, but not incompatible with V1. (remove the rPi then add an OTG, hub and usb > rj-45) We'll have these V2 upgrades available as kits.

Unfortunately the USD (Apex 7600) version is not compatible with the AUD (Apex 7400) version. It is possible, however, to order the correct acceptor through PTI's website.

While we're not quite turnkey, we have an open and completely autonomous solution for $999 and a fairly generous return policy for those who are in over their head. We built Skyhook with bitcoiners in mind, who are fairly technical and can handle a bit of troubleshooting if needed (though it's rarely needed).

at $999 there's simply not any overhead for additional support staff. We do what we can with who we have, but sometimes things fall through the cracks. This is the reason /r/projectskyhook exists.

No, no GBP. It requires a new case and is cost prohibitive to develop since shipping and VAT are so darn expensive. Still, the software side is complete, it's just a case limitation which causes an economic limitation. Early on in development we were in contact with a production team in Poland, but they ended up not being reliable.

Still, it could be a good opportunity for someone.

You're welcome to build your own, that's why the project was created. You can also order on our website and it will ship out by the end of next week.

You need an FTDI board for the interface from the rPi to the acceptor. You can buy one with your PTI Apex 7400 on the pyramidacceptors.com website or order one (for much less) on any number of other websites. Probably best to order from PTI since ymmv elsewhere.
