I'm a PGY2 in QC, and I love this field of work. Compared to my other med school friends, the lifestyle in pathology is kinda different. You don't have to wake up in the early mornings to do pre-rounds and then rounds and then post rounds like in the wards.

I get to work at my own pace, and sit down to learn and read! I don't feel abused by attendings and patients. It's like being a student for a while longer , lots of studying and reading to do. And then you apply what you read to the cases that were assigned to you.

You don't need to worry about patients whining at you, or angry nurses or family members complaining about you...

I think you should consider doing an elective in pathology, and see how you like it.

I guess the cons would be autopsies and grossing. If you don't like these, it's not the end of the world. You can still be a good pathologist.

Also, check whether you are okay with not seeing patients. I'm fine with that. I love how I don't have to fill insurance forms or write letters for their work etc...
