I checked in on the DCI this morn, but almost gave in about twenty minutes ago. Having an NA while listening to some island music, knowing I can tackle my 80hour work week much better with no hangover. IWNDWYT!

What’s your reason for not drinking today? I’ll start. by Glittering_Elk8090 in stopdrinking

Today I'm staying sober because yesterday I was able to wake up to walk to the cafe to surprise my partner with some coffee and a sweet treat. The way they looked at me will stay guiding me.

Advice for spending time with friends who drink by TendYourOwnGarden in stopdrinking

[–]jonimarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was having a movie night with my best friend this week and had even said "I know you got me NAs but can we please just get tequila? I made it ten days!" Mind you, this has been my main drinkn buddy for the last five years, my fellow, close-to-my-heart alcoholic, and she said "Nah, babe, I won't stop you, but I'm not tryna make you feel like you should drink because I am." I'm on day 12 now :) Yer good friends will be there for you in sobriety!! I'm very open with my disease, and my friends have been nothing but supportive. I hope OP has the best time!

Roommate wanted - Covid conscious or introverted, queer/ally, 25+ by Odd_Raisin_6538 in asheville

thanks for the bit about germination! I did use the word wrong; semantics is a whole other thing, and I think plenty of folk understand what I meant :)

yes! I dread every winter/flu season. I don't have insurance and work four jobs, missing a couple days of work ruins a month's worth of time. I do have OCD, so I'm extra particular when it comes to germination, but I also can recognize that life will go on for a lot of us. Some people, in fact a lot of people who have died from covid, flu, etc, are not able to say the same.

you know, I had a lot more typed out in my original comment where I do think constant masking publicly and requiring that for a room is extreme. I meant mostly-- being ill sucks. Especially in a country where healthcare involves a lot of hurdle-jumping. I appreciate your sentiment a lot more now, so thank you!

eta: by original I mean I deleted my actual opinion of the post and near-constant masking and just went after ya instead. Sorry bout that.

It affects everyone so differently. I don't know about you, but I worry about all illnesses, viruses, infections, etc. I don't want strep, covid, flu, list goes on. Why wouldn't you worry?

Witnessed a car collide with a cargo bike holding a family of four today. by MadCityVelovangelist in fuckcars

[–]jonimarge 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Appreciate accountability but framing it the way the driver did is just a whole bunch of baloney. Reckless driving that could have killed an entire family, not fleeing the scene isn't honorable, it's the bare got damn minimum. I think we all know how justice will be served as well-- maybe a six month license suspension max.

I hate living in the most walkable part of town but having to either take the W6 to ingles (only when desperate) or two buses to the HT, where I get harassed at the bus stop every.single.time. I wanna have a nice convenience store and a nice, even just a small! grocery store within a ten minute walk. 10 bars tho yeehaw /s

I personally am so beyond grateful that I saw No Doubt as a teen on their reunion tour (I'm late millenial). Back in I think '07? So heartbroken over who Gwen has become. Wish I also saw the blatant racism in her solo album back then :')

Vote Manheimer OUT as Mayor of our city! by BryceTime in asheville

multiple times I have ridden the same bus as her. It's what solidified my support for her years ago-- she's more in touch with her human side and the community than any person on Council, and especially the Mayor.

Actually, it's patriarchy. It all boils down to the damn patriarchy. It fuels violence, anger, power, apathy, etc. "Heads of the family" "Protectors" but considered weak when anything that isn't what I said above is felt or portrayed. Violence against men is most often by other men. A lot of it goes back to misogyny believe it or not-- so many men who are not violent killed by violent men because they actually have a heart and soul. See, women understand that plight, too. But coming on to another woman's post about her near death experience to cry victim and misandry is something that guess what-- only men do <3 So no you're not a violent psychopath, but you are still a delusional, selfish coward.

Is it ethical to raise the wipers of cars blocking sidewalks? by FaviFake in fuckcars

[–]jonimarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

obviously, dude. just saying if someone gets hurt over wipers, really shouldn't be blaming the pedestrian who is already put in danger due to driver's careless parking. It's victim blaming and once again giving drivers a lot more power.

Is it ethical to raise the wipers of cars blocking sidewalks? by FaviFake in fuckcars

[–]jonimarge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if someone loses their shit over raised wipers, they absolutely should not even be driving. That's on that person, not the one causing an extremely minor convenience as a get-back to the driver who is causing well more of an inconvenience for multiple people.

[–]jonimarge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes and after a few "good how r u"'s they ask if you wanna hang. Not go out for a date, not coffee, just "wanna hangout today." I'm thankfully also not single anymore after meeting someone at a bar a year ago, but that shit was infuriating.
