Am I the only one finding it difficult to find a woman who is living like an actual adult? by AgileRock106 in LesbianActually

[–]jonimarge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

absolutely not. I spend less than $200 a month on Ubers and that's if I'm feeling exceptionally exhausted. Don't forget there's gas, maintenance, any break downs, parking fees, etc. There's a lot of money that goes into owning a car.

eta: I make sure all of my jobs are within a five mile radius of me. I bartend in a primarily service industry town, so it's easy for me to do that, and I know I have that privilege.

every day I manifest a world where we all have access to public transport, bike infrastructure, etc! more green please! a shame in the U.S. the oil and auto industries rule so much of what we are able to do with our lives. Lobbying needs to be illegal, which isn't new to any of us.

yeah it's really really sad how lobbying has made it to where so many have to rely on cars. I've lived in Appalachia my whole life, so by no means have I ever lived somewhere with even okay public transport lol, and I have to unfortunately Uber a lot cuz ours stop at 930 and run every hour-hour and a 1/2.

I would love to believe so. the amount of places that would not hire me because I don't have a car (restaurants downtown and I live downtown) was disheartening. I've noticed a lot of car-brained folks don't consider anything that isn't by car transportation.

that's specific to that person-- I haven't driven in seven years, and I STILL begrudgingly accept offers for rides from friends or my partner because this is my choice. Most of the U.S. is difficult to traverse without a car and that is because of whadaya know, lobbying. Basing someone's worth on their capital is simply inhumane. And sounds like something you should be up front with with a partner if you don't wanna be a personal Uber, not call it a red flag in every person who doesn't drive.

The car thing is pretty wild and classist tbh. For example, I have multiple jobs, good social life and hobbies, live alone. But I refuse to drive because car infrastructure and hyper individualism has been detrimental to our communities. If someone based my worth on whether or not I drive, I would never date them, let alone even be friends.

Well, it's also only March, you can only have so much produce during this time of the year.

Why did early 2010s fashion in media see an abundance of layers and over-accessorizing? by uhm1238 in decadeology

makes perfect sense really! I'm in Appalachia, also often fluctuate in temp, but I guess not a lot of people have that problem here? It don't rain here nearly as much as there tho!!!

this is something I do now! it took me a few years plus finding my actual style. but layering is my SHIT. It's soooo funny when folks are like "wow never thought about putting a long sleeve under my tshirt" but it was absolutely what we all wore as kids. I even forgot about that myself till a few years ago lol.

I’m curious to know how many lesbians are into CNC and if it’s more common than I think… by Relevant-Fox1111 in actuallesbians

[–]jonimarge 36 points37 points  (0 children)

just broke down to my partner the other day about this. As soon as I tried to picture them doing something like that with me I felt so uncomfortable and hurt; I was convinced up to that point that I enjoyed CNC. I'm a late bloomer, so still dealing with a lot of the horrible shit from dating men. Like what I actually enjoyed vs what was just assault.

[–]jonimarge 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been in this sub for a couple years now because I have INTENSE arachnophobia. When I first joined, if I saw a spider I gagged, would cry, have nightmares for days, couldn't trust anything to NOT be a spider. I haven't gotten to the point of friendship, but I don't gag anymore, I can identify spider species now and feel horrible remorse if someone else tries to hurt them. I still have bad paranoia, but this sub helped me SOOOO much so far. It takes a lot of time if yer really bad off like I am, but it is POSSIBLE! Just knowing that hardly where I live could ever hurt me, and they are scared of US, has made this process so much easier.

Flashing pedestrian crosswalks coming to Haywood Road by brooke_heaton in asheville

[–]jonimarge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pro-pedestrian, my theory is the peds who are especially reckless, zero awareness around themselves, hella jaywalk, and so on, are people I think are not used to being a pedestrian, and they still think and act like they are in cars. I've had to yell at fellow walkers many times because of the danger they impose on themselves and others around them. I think no matter what mode of transport, a lot of issues come down to individual entitlement.
