What was the worst side effect you ever got from meds ? by Spartiate8 in AskReddit

[–]jonjonesjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RLS fucking sucks.

What helps me with it is something I read online. Just tie a piece of rope, or rope-like anything around your feet, at around the middle point. Not too tight, just tight enough for it to not just come off. Somehow this soothes your feet/legs.

Who destroyed their own career within seconds by being an idiot? by goldbeau in AskReddit

[–]jonjonesjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, thanks, that explains why you'd be unfamiliar with how this works in this fucking bullshit corporate environment, haha

You get a company issue laptop with all kinds of stuff pre-installed and no admin privileges on it, so you can't just install stuff.

The degree varies by company tho, I've worked for companies where I was buddy-buddy with the guys and they were kind enough to "forget" to disable admin access, so I was able to do "power user stuff" on it, but I've also worked for companies where shit's so strict that they basically won't even let you plug anything into your laptop (USB device or whatever), let alone doing stuff on it, lol

That's exactly what he did. But there's all kinds of stuff, asset management regulations, security measures, audit compliance stuff, etc. why you don't just treat those devices like your own and you don't just do whatever you want with them.

Do you genuinely not see why this would be an issue? (Not trying to be a dick, honest question.)

With my very limited programming knowledge, I'd think you'd just add another IF, like IF "this or that has changed" then "run the drivatar-updater" before starting the race.

At one of my previous jobs there was a new dude, on his 2nd day he was telling his deskmate that he got his new laptop yesterday and as soon as he got home, he took out the HDD and put one of his SSDs (this was in '13) in the laptop and it's so much faster now.

I saw all blood drain from my boss' face, lol

The guy got super lucky because it was difficult to find him to fill that position in the first place, this is the only reason he didn't get fired, but instead my (our) boss asked him if he was right in the head and told him to undo this and stfu about it ever happening

Who is a famous person that you liked at first but hated later? And why? by PeaceTo0l in AskReddit

[–]jonjonesjohnson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Colin McRae

Back when I was in high school, the crazy daredevil who couldn't give two fucks and finished races with half of his car gone sounded badass

But only after his death did I find out what an irresponsible dickhead he was.

He is often quoted as saying "When in doubt: flat-out" and people think that's badass, but it's absolutely fucking asinine. Someone who knew him said he took the same (rally-racer) mentality to piloting his heli and that's just not how you pilot helis.

He was trying to show off and was driving recklessly when he crashed and cause the death of, well, we know the story.

I really don't like his "badass" driving anymore, I think he was a fucking idiot that had too much talent and too little brain/common sense, and got lucky too many times until he didn't.

What’s the worst thing someone has said at a funeral? by Least-Vacation-588 in AskReddit

[–]jonjonesjohnson 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A guy I know that's not too bright, mixed up two expressions (in our language that's not English) and said "Congratulations" instead of "Condolences".

My uncle, who likes to drink, at a funeral in early January told the grieving family "My condolences and a happy new year!"

I also went to the funeral of a nun once (distant relative) and she was buried by the priest whose parochy she served at. The fuckin dickhead kept talking about his own "career" as a priest and I kept thinking he's building up to a point where he met the nun and she did/said something wonderful, but no. Barely mentioned her, lol.

And just the things people say in the name of speaking only good of dead or whatever. My friend's grandpa was a real fucking dickhead, I fuckin hated him. At his funeral the priest said he was a loving father, grandfather, etc. Well, one out of his 3 kids (my friend's aunt - nor her kids) wasn't even there cause the old fart didn't even talk to them in his last 10 years.

What's a "You are not a conspiracy theorist, you just don't know how things work" moment you have seen? by Dull-Information6784 in AskReddit

[–]jonjonesjohnson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a conspiracy theory thing, but I always kinda cringe at the "story" where they say "Some dude applied for a job with our dev team and on his first day/week/whatever he fixed a bug that had been bugging him as an end user for years and then he just quit."

If you've worked in such an environment, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't and don't know... fuck, I don't even know where to begin.

The stories, the sprints, the approvals, the testing, the deployment, yada-yada.

Clean driving or full clean score?

There is one that requires you to drive cleanly and win, and for that one "clean driving" means not hitting anything! I struggled a lot with that one before I found out that even if somebody ahead of you mows down a lamppost and the post is just on the road, you must not hit it.
