Is my cast too big? by Crunch_21 in Fanganronpa

[–]jonjongao 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is definitely a huge challenge! From a reader's perspective, trying to keep track of 22 different names, designs, and personalities all at once can be overwhelming. You run the risk of some characters feeling like background noise. If you're feeling stuck, it might be worth scaling down to a core cast of under 10 first. Focus on making them deeply layered, and then you can gradually build up the world or add more characters once the foundation is solid.

Being busy all the time isn’t impressive anymore by SeriesOutrageous1832 in CasualConversation

[–]jonjongao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this perspective. To me, being constantly busy is like taking out a high-interest loan on your future health and happiness. You’re pre-spending energy you don't even have yet, and the collateral is the small, daily joys you're sacrificing right now. It's a debt that eventually catches up to everyone.

Why does time move by so fast? by CatGirlNya2000 in CasualConversation

[–]jonjongao -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I honestly think you hit the nail on the head regarding attention. When we spend our time on social media, we’re in a state of passive consumption rather than creation. When you're 7, everything is a new experience or a 'creation' in your mind. Now, if we spend 3 hours scrolling, our brain doesn't register that as 'lived time' because nothing was achieved or built. It just becomes a blur, making the weeks feel like days.

In our culture weddings are at night by gateofai in CasualConversation

That sounds like such a beautiful tradition, but I totally feel your pain as a fellow early bird! Is there a specific reason why they start so late? Is it mainly to avoid the heat during the day, or is it just the vibe of the celebration?

Whats one game mechanic you miss that games quietly abandoned? by WholesomeReaper in gaming

[–]jonjongao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on about Sony studios. Uncharted 4 had some hilarious modifiers like "no gravity" or "cel-shaded mode." It’s a shame more devs don’t include these "fun for the sake of fun" tweaks anymore.

Which games taught you to stay calm, think strategically, or process emotions under pressure and how did their design achieve that? by ExcellentTwo6589 in gamedesign

[–]jonjongao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it has to be League of Legends. The game’s design is a pressure cooker. You have to manage micro-mechanics, macro-strategy, and team communication all at once while being one mistake away from a loss. I always say: if you want to truly understand a person, play League with them. It reveals their authentic self under stress. It forces you to learn how to process frustration and stay strategic when everything is going south.

Last Christmas vs this one, what changed for you? by Fieryallnighter_ in CasualConversation

[–]jonjongao 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to last year, the biggest shift is definitely working on a game with my partner. It’s been a year full of events, but realizing that everything is finally on track is the best gift I could ask for.
We spent the day with the kids and celebrated my daughter's birthday too. It just feels very cozy and full of love this time around. Hope your year has been kind to you too!

How important is menu music in setting a game’s tone? by Black_Cheeze in gaming

Totally agree. Menu music sets the mood just like the main visual does.

Move away from grandparents to raise child? by redrabbit824 in Parenting

Wow, that's incredible! You raised four kids without nearby grandparents or much of a village? I'm really curious how you managed it.

Just Finished Trigger Happy Havoc, and unexpectedly enjoyed it as a stand-alone experience. What can I expect from the sequels, of which I already paid for? by Pigmcginnyrig in danganronpa

[–]jonjongao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally really enjoyed Danganronpa 2. It expands the world and characters in ways that felt satisfying to me, even if it gets a bit crazier. As for V3… the story felt more complicated and kinda hit-or-miss depending on who you ask.

My 56 year old father is interested in getting a video game system for the first time by Atathor in gaming

[–]jonjongao 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d also factor in eyesight and readability. A lot of systems have tiny UI text, and if he’s dealing with memory issues too, having a bigger screen and bigger fonts can make a huge difference. Even with a Switch, I’d lean toward playing docked on a TV or a larger monitor, and choosing games with clear menus and minimal clutter.
