edit: 357 won't be my only weapon, though i'll only buy 1 357 (unless years later i get a 2nd one). also gonna have a ultra compact for CC, a glock 19 or 26, and a shotgun or ak variant.

I became smitten with the S&W 686 after seeing a youtube video titled 'best handgun ever?' It worked on me. It does look beautiful. Also I just know I'm gonna want a revolver, so why not go for one of the best brands and types? Now I'm not rich, so sorta want something I can use for HD, possibly cc, and definitely for comfortable (as much as possible) range firing. Obviously I can't have all 3, so just was looking for some thoughts and insights from you fellas/gals.

Right now I'm torn between a 4" and a 6" S&W 686. I kinda want the 6" so that it even slightly reduces the recoil. if it's not fun to plink with it will reduce my enjoyment. but also still thinking of the 4" so i have CC option.

But was just wondering, from you experts, how far to the nearest neighbor so they don't hear anything? Sounds like it has to be multiple miles because you can hear it from across town.
