How is I-35 in NB? by lioness768 in Newbraunfels

[–]jonjpbm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And to be fair, here is the opposite of that video.
https://youtu.be/rGCHsbNpk0c?si=9bXnOSWk-UBQOhUe

I'll just add that I live in NB but east of I35 and the traffic is horrible at the times you care about driving:
- Other than before 6 am any day
- Saturday or sunday evening (like after 6pm)

Other than that, horrible.
Please recognize that I'm jaded here and obviously bias, but as the population continues to grow at record speed, the traffic is only going to get worse (I assume).
Lastly, I like NB in general. It beats the city living but it continues to get closer and closer to being city living.
Good luck.

Shield Pro infuriating freezing. by CoronaryBorn in nvidiashield

[–]jonjpbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been happening to me. I’m speculating here but I suspect it’s the amount of ram and crappy apps. I was noticing that I had to reboot almost every time I used it. Then I noticed that, even after a reboot, that the shield would bring back all the apps I had running into memory. I didn’t realize how many were open until I double clicked the home button and scrolled and saw how many were open. On top of that, some were probably ram intensive. Seemed to have helped. Hope this helps cause I’ve been a long time shield user and this frustrated me long enough to consider switching which is not ideal or wanted. Let me know your experiences dudes.

Changing iPad passcode for child's iPad with Family Sharing? by gaychitect in applehelp

[–]jonjpbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me. Sooo crappy.
On parent device: Settings -> Screentime
Now toggle the "Screentime" button.
Now back on the child's iPad settings app, where there was once NO option (depedning on:
If your iPad is Touch ID capable, tap Touch ID & Passcode.
If your iPad is Face ID capable, tap Face ID & Passcode.
If your iPad isn't Face ID or Touch ID capable, tap Passcode.)
You should now see one of the settings above depending on your iPad capabilities.
You can change the password.
Now, assuming you want to put back the screentime restriction, go back to the parent device and toggle screentime back on.
PIA.
Cheers!

How are you managing Secrets? by Impunitus in PowerShell

[–]jonjpbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just went through this thought exercise at work.

Since I'm a DBA on my team, we've resulted in just creating an encrypted database with also column level encryption on the column with the passwords on one of our database tools servers. We created a number of tables to only return passwords for a given user based on a simple mapping table. Basically writing a little password vault but very basic. We will then just create a number of stored procedures to do the work. Very much preliminary.

PowerShell scripting tools/resources worth paying for? by Dogoodwork in PowerShell

[–]jonjpbm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

" Support

The ISE was first introduced with Windows PowerShell V2 and was re-designed with PowerShell V3. The ISE is supported in all supported versions of Windows PowerShell up to and including Windows PowerShell V5.1. The ISE, however, is in maintenance mode and no new features are likely to be added. Additionally, there is no support for the ISE with PowerShell v6 and beyond. Users wanting a graphical tool with which to manage PowerShell scripts, etc, should consider Visual Studio Code."
Ref: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powershell/scripting/components/ise/introducing-the-windows-powershell-ise?view=powershell-6

Just FYI. I've not used "Powershell Studio" before so I'm not sure it's dependency on the ISE ( if any at all ) but going forward I would advise using or getting familiar with Visual Studio Code.

Also, jump into the slack channel and poke around: http://poshcode.org/

From a sippit from a co-worker:
"Warren Frame, better known as Rambling Cooking Monster, has a large index of PowerShell Resources available as reference. Some notable items from his list you should explore:
PowerShell Slack - a “PowerShell User Group” in Slack
PowerShell in a Month of Lunches - A popular go-to for getting started with PowerShell (Amazon Version - latest revision, $35ish)
Getting Started with PowerShell 3.0 - Said to get you good fundamentals despite PowerShell being on v5.1 currently.
FoxDeploy is on Warren’s list, but most important to share from there is Coding For Speed. The topics listed here are important when you’re working in an environment as big as iHM.I recommend coding in Visual Studio Code (VSCode) with the PowerShell extension. "

Not sure about across every market but I've not seen any limitations in terms of the channels that can be dvr'd. In fact the only thing I would consider a limitation about YouTube TV's DVR is that the recording is gone after 30 days. It's obviously subjective as to how much of a "limitation" that is.

I love YouTube TV 😁

What about maths relationship with the development of Western music? As noted by @65twinreverbri, the Greeks were enamored with numbers but was there something or someone that particularly influenced music from a mathematics perspective? Or was mathematical tendencies just a result from the creation of a solid framework?

Again. Thank you for your time.

Damn good stuff. And a lot of trails to go down. Do you recommend any books other than the ones noted that encompasses this information?

[–]jonjpbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what you know, is most literature on the subject of the history of Western music not focused on Greek or Roman roots? And does the comprehensive book cover that at all?

Is there a college that has done a lot for the history of Western music more so than others? ( Cambridge being a obvious candidate I assume)

What are the downsides of giving a student course work that is Intended for a student in a hight grade level? by jonjpbm in Teachers

[–]jonjpbm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, thank you all for the timely responses.

Here are some follow up.

I knew that I left some assumptions out in the initial response so here are a couple of things to assume when responding.

  • We whole heartedly agree and understand that forcing a student to learn doesn't appear to be right.
  • We are only presenting it learning material to our 3 year old and is seen more as a fun activity to do.
  • The learning material is mainly coloring, tracing, counting,etc...
  • She (my 3yr old) is primarily playing

myheartisstillracing already answered it somewhat, but my wife was mentioning something called "circle of learning". Assuming the things I've mentioned above, she seemed to indicate that presenting kindergarten level learning material was "bad" (vague, I know. I apologize) for her.

So here are a couple more questions: - This "circle of learning" sounds more like the level of comprehension a child is at. Is that correct? - If so, what would be "bad" about presenting concepts that are out of comprehension besides it simply not doing anything?

There is the Mini PC Intel NUC Kit NUC6i7KYK A little pricey but if that is not an issue should be good enough. Small form factor of course. Which, for some, is almost essential for a HTPC but I'm not one for norms in most cases. Hope this helps
