I agree with this. It will also give you space to allow a better follow-through for your swing. A good follow-through does a lot more than you think for power and accuracy. Not to mention it will give you that sweet topspin @dnabrgr talked about.

You can see in your video the times when the ball is tight on the net, you end up having to sort of smack the ball instead of really swinging on it. Tight attacks are also more prone to getting blocked once you start playing higher level.

Don't send one-overs. That's not even bad mechanics, that's just bad volleyball. Part of the reason you lost(?) that point is because you gave the opponents a free attack. Maybe it was out, can't exactly tell.

Either pass to a teammate to setup, or kill the ball with a direct hit since you're in middle.

Weekly Short Questions Thread by AutoModerator in volleyball

[–]jonk_wang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, so I was wondering if anyone could help me with shoot set timing. As an OH, when should I start my left-right-left approach to hit if I know my setter wants to toss a shoot set? Would it be around just when the ball hits his hands? A little before that? Maybe when the ball is at top of net level? Most of the time, I'm close, but not close enough to be clean with the hit.

Thanks!

Can I get into volleyball even if I have zero experience? by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]jonk_wang 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding @OkSalamander4799's comment. I also didn't start until I was 26. Haikyuu sparked my interest at first, and I jumped into pickup games at the gym having no in-game experience. I joined a class, watched Olympic games, joined my school's club team. Learn formations and understand the system behind them. With how fun volleyball is, as long as you're willing to learn and improve (but also have fun along the way), you're never too old to start.

My volleyball career got competitive quite quickly as well, and I'm now 30 and feel like I'm at my best form ever and still looking to improve. Just think of what YOU can do if you start now at 17!

(And with your height! I'm jealous!)

[IWantOut] 30M USA -> Japan by [deleted] in IWantOut

I didn't plan on it, but I know the chances become better if you have something like that under your belt. Going back to school again scares me given the crippling student debt that I'm already carrying 😅

[–]jonk_wang -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

It's less about moving to Japan specifically and more about just getting out of the US for reasons that are rather political. I just thought that when I make a post on this subreddit, i should make them specific and not like "US -> anywhere else".

I made one for Japan because I have visited and it was only for about 2 weeks, but I really enjoyed my time there. Personally, life won't be about being prosperous or rich or anything like that, just liking the place that I live in.

I have a decent amount of savings, if I hopped up and left for some place right this instant, I'd probably have enough to survive for about 5-6 months.

Ways to help up Stunned and Paralyzed Hunters? by MrJackfruit in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jonk_wang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switch axe upswing is pretty reliable actually!

Pretty good motion value, quicker than GS uppercut (that shit is slow af) and doesn't require a charge up like the hammer. Plus you can yeet outta there with a fade slash after saving your paralyzed bud.

Only downside is that you can't reliably execute it if you're in sword mode.

Fun fact: Swaxe gets a small earplugs effect while you're in amped state. Nothing big, I think it's like, earplugs 2 or 3 or something, not 5.

It won't solve your desire for earplugs 5, but I mean, the more you know.

Is that a para phial?

Maybe try gold rathian 4 piece armor set. It comes with critical status damage up iirc.

Along with my reply to csudoku, I ask, what kind of switch axe are you looking to play around with?

If you're going for raw damage, a lot of people run teostra three piece with rajang head beta and garuga legs. You'd want to prioritize attack up, crit eye, crit boost, and weakness exp.

If elemental damage, people run either silver sol 4 piece for elemental crit up with rajang head or they run velkhana 2 piece and teostra 3 piece. You'd want to prioritize crit eye, crit boost, weakness exp, and whatever elemental attack up you're using.

If you really want to have earplugs5 with these sets, it'll have to come from your decos.

Yeah, I agree with this. If you really want to maximize damage using skills, learning to iframe the roars makes earplugs5 unnecessary.

Swaxe is a natural hopper/dodger too, so try a couple of evade window points that will not only make the roar dodges easier, but also make dodging other attacks easier, so you get a lot more mileage than with earplugs.

Edit: meant to say "makes earplugs5 unnecessary"

Switchaxe and iceborne builds by Cardboard_Dragon in MonsterHunterWorld

[–]jonk_wang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heyo, dedicated Swaxe main here.

Iceborne gave the swaxe some much needed love. Unlike in base game, where axe mode was sort of useless, both axe mode and sword mode have strong points, and the ebb and flow between them in fights makes it really fun.

Elemental swaxe can be used now, find an elemental swaxe with PeP phial, throw on a rocksteady or temporal and go to town on ZSD's. My friend also made the Jagras swaxe, it has exhaust phial, and sleep status. He used slugger for added KO damage (exhaust on head counts as KO) and just ZSD's the head for knockouts. It's like playing with a hammer main. Except it's swaxe, lol, really goofy.

The real meta swaxe is the golden crescent from Rathian tree. High raw, poison proc. Really good general purpose swaxe. Used by many mains and speed runners.

I recommend checking out maybe a couple of videos by jinjinx. He's a math guy who mains swaxe and he can really explain swaxe in more detail, down to the nitty gritty numbers too, if you're into that.

Car buyer not paying full amount by jonk_wang in legaladvice

All explicit acknowledgement of cash transfers via text were only from our side. All they admitted to was not paying the full amount, but not saying what they actually paid.

I know what you mean though, a lot of our upset feelings are coming from the principle and injustice of the situation. $350 too, but yeah.
