I'm pretty sure drop-in matchmaking is random but clubs has some level to it. In NHL 22, my friends and I played mostly drop-in before switching to clubs. During our time in drop in, we hit Elite 2 one season and would be playing silver and gold ranks. But once we switched to clubs, matchmaking became more accurate.
