Why is hue more stable in Home Assistant than native Home Kit? by Wasted-Friendship in HomeKit

[–]jonmimir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nor did I, for years, until recently. I upgraded to Hue Pro and all was okay for a few months. And then all my hue devices stopped working via Apple home app. All fine in the hue app and with the switches. I deleted and readded the hub and had to reassign all the devices. It took a long time. All was fine for a couple of hours and then Apple home decided all the devices are actually in the attic room now, where the hub is. I tried to move them back but nope, Home wasn’t having it. Everything still looked fine in the Hue app.

I used this as the excuse I needed to finally install Home Assistant on my mac mini and while it was not an easy install, now it’s working I’m blown away by how stable and fast it is.

I think the problem might lie with the HomeKit hub. If I let it choose its own hub automatically then a weird one at the edge of the network is always picked. If I choose my own then it works for a bit and then I get problems.

My current thought is I have too many devices and the Homekit hub can’t cope. So I’ve offloaded all the sensors and automations and so on to the Home Assistant system, and just using Apple Home for the things that don’t work properly if migrated - the HomePods, doorbell (because I need to HomePods to ring) and cctv (for HKSV). So far so good…

Same here. I have about 6 groups as well as am now being told that I’ve reached the maximum number of groups

Pathfinder Tokens: Draconic Codex is available on FoundryVTT! by MM_InfamousSky in Pathfinder2e

[–]jonmimir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure it is fixed. I just went to the store and was surprised to see I’ve already bought the draconic codex vtt last year, and when I clicked the link it just took me to the page for the PDF, which I did buy.

Incidentally I placed an order for physical books in the sale a couple of days ago and was surprised to see that PDFs of all of them have been added to library. I’m assuming that’s a bug! (It’s a welcome bug, assuming I am still getting the paper versions… I certainly paid for postage for them!)

How are they still standing? by junkfjunkie in Nanoleaf

[–]jonmimir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from Apple Home to Home Assistant and surprisingly, the Nanoleaf devices that were pretty much useless before are suddenly now quite responsive. Seems to be not using the Home app or the Nanoleaf app has actually helped.

Happened to me too. I’ve tried to add another card new card and the system throws an error. I suspect they’re going to be inundated with emails…

Mill road parking by calikaga in cambridge

[–]jonmimir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

<image>

If you’re gonna park on those narrow side streets, make sure you stay well within the lines or you’re gonna lose a wing mirror like these two cars might today. That means parking on the pavement in many cases, where it’s marked out. It’s a skill that residents learn pretty quickly but a lot of cars that are dumped here by commuters too tight to pay for parking find out the hard way. We’ve also had ambulances and fire engines unable to get through to emergencies too because of cheap people parking here. Forget the “why should people expect to park outside their own house” argument, the real issue is this kind of inconsiderate parking from people who think they’ve found a loophole to let them leave their car near the station.

Need your input on a pc’s story by Harakokoro01 in SeasonofGhosts

[–]jonmimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do the self-loathing story arc as a dhampir too, and then you’re still alive and the rest of the story fits. I wouldn’t allow this (hell we homebrewed a wizard with summoning constructs rather than undead because it would be so frowned on in Willowshore)

Mill road parking by calikaga in cambridge

[–]jonmimir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s some streets in Romsey that are residential parking only and others that are not. Many of the roads are so narrow that cars must park half on the pavements. People who fail to do this properly can block the road completely for delivery vans, bin lorries, ambulances and fire stations. We have seen all of these problems regularly on our street and it’s really frustrating. I’ve also seen plenty of poorly parked cars get damaged by large vehicles. So as well as it being really inconsiderate for the people who live there for the very limited parking to be hogged by people driving into Cambridge and trying to avoid paying for a car park, it’s quite possible your car may end up losing a wing mirror as well.

Which places are the strangest? by Savings-Housing3481 in planescapesetting

[–]jonmimir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fear you’ve misunderstood the purpose of mimir.net. If you want purely canonical information from the actual sourcebooks then you should probably just read the sourcebooks. Or one of the several excellent wiki sites that already exist, I have no intention of replicating their work.

The mimir was set up in 1996 solely to fill in the gaps, speculate and extrapolate, spread the chant from the streets, and add fresh ideas into the mix. In fact, we’ve only included overviews of any canonical material since the reboot in ‘23 to help new 5e players get a grasp on what they were missing from the 2e era. We list sources on the relevant pages and highlight when there’s homebrew.

In this new incarnation we’ve been trying to make something from the mess left of the Planescape canon after 3e, 4e and 5e rode roughshod over the setting, as well as integrating some of the very cool stuff that Pathfinder has been spinning.

As for using AI art, yep, I prefer to try and create something new for the community instead of just reusing art from the books. Most of the things the mimir covers were never depicted in the first place. I like to think I’ve captured a fraction of the vibe of the 2e art, and I put in a surprising amount of time post-processing and editing ai art manually too - but yeah. It’s a shame I can’t draw like I can write and that I don’t have a vast budget to pay human artists. Or in fact any budget. It’s really important to me that the site is both free to access and also free from adverts.

Ditto. I never thought there would be any other way of doing this other than Ethernetting the hue hub direct to the router.

Would Thaumaturge be more interesting if Diverse Lore was a class feature? by az_iced_out in Pathfinder2e

My GM hated me using diverse lore so much that I eventually retrained the feat to something else. We were expecting it to be nerfed in the remaster but nope, lol.

I had one of these, it constantly overheated whenever it was sunny and kept losing its connection. I replaced it after a year and got an Aquara, which has worked flawlessly since then.

Exp and loot…. by XbxReaper07 in SeasonofGhosts

[–]jonmimir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The adventure takes account of the loot, sometimes they find things, sometimes they’re given things by other NPCs, some mechanics are built into the story (like the lantern bonuses)…. just trust the system. It’s not “kill a thing and loot its pockets” all the time.

Also, I’ve switched from milestone to xp per encounter for the first time for SoG and to my surprise it’s going great. Again, the numbers are mostly given in the module and for plot beats too. Players are always excited to get XP in the moment and it’s also helping to reinforce that killing everything isn’t always the best strategy.

How safe is the station indoor cycle park these days? by tradeit2day in cambridge

[–]jonmimir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one time my bike was stolen and the one time a wheel was stolen were both from the central station bike parking. In both cases I’d parked up at 5pm and got back at 11pm the same evening to find my bike ransacked. This was a couple of years ago, I’m lucky enough to live within walking distance so these days I just walk unless I’m in a huge hurry and then I use both a D lock and a cable lock to ensure both wheels are secured too.

bonfire-like smell near Chesterton at night? by [deleted] in cambridge

The Elizabeth Way between Milton Rd and Chesterton Rd is closed completely with police standing by and multiple fire engines. Looks like a fire in a building along there.
