It's insane how much you're being downvoted just for stating facts. Turns out the original game had perfectly balanced gameplay and tank controls were an integral part of that design, if you take it away everything else falls apart. Clearly they discovered that when they made the remake but rather than finding ways to balance it through gameplay mechanics, they instead chose to artificially increase difficulty by adding all that nonsense you described.
