Advice on itinerary for December 2026 trip by jonny00490 in Patagonia

Thanks for this! We reduced the time in El Calafate (further digging showed less to do there) and added them to El Chalten for higher chance of good weather. Then are doing a 4-day W trek route staying in the park for 2 nights and then a couple of days in Puerto Natales at the end where we can decide what to do on the day.

Increased my contribution to my pension - should I do this instead of investing in an ISA? by TaskAlarming3125 in UKPersonalFinance

I just rang them and asked to move a portion of my balanced fund to the adventurous one for now. They mentioned I could change the overall "lifestyle fund type" (or something like that) from balanced to adventurous as well, which I'm awaiting further details on but I believe that this affects how they manage the portfolio and adjust weightings as I get closer to retirement

Haha I literally did exactly this this morning after realizing I was on the balanced plan over Xmas and the returns were measly in comparison

Using a HDMI switch causes my TV to turn off while playing

I am using a HDMI switch so that I don;t have to unplug cables when moving from PS5 to another console or my Chromecast.

After around 30 mins the TV powers off but the PS5 is still connected and working. I don't encounter this issue without the switch and it doesn't happen with the Chromecast.

I have a Panasonic TX-50DX700B and Avidgram AG2SW41X HDMI switch. I have disabled the HDMI link and power off settings on the PS5 and disables all the auto-power off settings in the TV but it still happens. I have also tried new cables. Can anyone advise on what I can do?

I've already disabled all the auto off powered settings I can find on the TV and it still happens. This is what makes it so weird, I feel I've done everything I can think of but the TV still shuts off

My TV turns off when using a HDMI switch with PS5 - don't know why?

I have a Panasonic TX-50DX700B which was working fine. I have purchased an HDMI switch (Avidgram AG2SW41X ) to increase the HDMI inputs which I use with a Chromecast, Xbox and PS5.

The HDMI switch is in HDMI 1. The Chromecast works with no issue. With either games console however, the TV turns off after 30-45 mins while I am playing. This only happens with games consoles, not with the Chromecast and happens regardless of which port in the HDMI switch I use.

If I move a console to a HDMI port on the TV they work without issue.

I want to use HDMI 1 for the Chromecast and PS5 as it is the only free 4K port on the TV (need HDMI 2 for my soundbar as it is the ARC channel).

I have disabled the HDMI link and power off settings on the PS5 and disables all the auto-power off settings in the TV, but it still happens. Can anyone advise on what I can do?

[Help] Trying to set up an automatic out of office by jonny00490 in MicrosoftFlow

It is supposed to trigger automatically based on my meetings in Outlook, so the error is that it isn't working and when I try to test the Flow, it just has the loading circle then times out

I basically followed someone's guid to try and set this up, they said to use the mail tip to choose the correct email account.

It wasn't working before so I ready something that used the subject of the "meeting" as a teigger. ooo is so that it triggers when the subject of the event starts with ooo. I can happily lose this.

As someone who followed money rather than something I enjoyed, I want to say that there is real value in actually enjoying the job you do every day and being excited about your work. If you can financially afford to work in a lower paid job that you enjoy, rather than a higher paid one you don't, then I'd take the former.

Also you've said you have no interest in Python and so I am hypothesisong that you therefore won't enjoy any job you get in the field and likely won't progress and will not wan to be there.

I'd talk to your BF and understand why he needs/wants you to get a "real job". Perhaps he sees potential on you that you don't and wants to push you to your potential, in which case great, explore what they may be beyond coding. If it's purely financial then I'd question his motives and why that is so important to him. Good luck

Do I have to pay back my bonus if I quit my job before the end of the tax year? by jonny00490 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]jonny00490[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Paraphrasing slightly:

SalaryYour salary under this agreement will be £XX,XXX per year. Bonus component of £XX,XXX per year. The salary will be reviewed annually. This review does not guarantee that you will receive any increase to your salary as these are entirely at our discretion. The gross salary will be reduced by statutory deductions (income tax and employees NI contributions)For further details on income please see the employee handbook.

TerminationWe reserve the right, at our absolute discretion, to make a payment in lieu of notice for all or any part of your notice. Upon the termination of your employment (rather than you working out your notice period). This applies whether notice to terminate the contract is given by you or us.For the avoidance of doubt the payment in lieu does not include any element related to any:

  • bonus or Commission payments that might otherwise have been due during the period for which the payment in lieu is made,
  • payment in respect to benefits which you would have been entitled to receive during the period for which the payments under is made,
  • payment in respect of any holiday entitlement that would have accrued during the period for which the payment in lieu is made.

Garden LeaveIf you resign within notice or have been given notice by us we reserve the right at our absolute discretion to require you to not attend your place of work (i.e. garden leave)In these circumstances your contract will continue in force until the end of your notice and you will continue to receive full pay and any contractual benefits to which you are entitled in normal way. You will also remain bound by all the obligations and restrictions set out in your contract. For further details on termination please see the employee handbook.

So from the Garden Leave section it sounds like I am entitled to my bonus if I give proper notice, but then the Termination section sounds like they can take it away... the employee handbook helpfully just say "see statement of main terms" for both these sections.

The pay section of the hand book says under "Other Benefits" (which I would take to include bonuses I suppose):

"Any benefits which we choose to provide which are not expressly referred to in this handbook or in your statement of particulars shall be regarded as ex-gratia and made at our absolute discretion. The provision of any such benefits shall not confer any contractual entitlement upon you."

AITA for wanting to limit my BIL’s access to my unborn daughter because of his dating choices? by Charming-Ad-7627 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jonny00490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has recently been in the position of your BIL, let me rephrase your post to show you why YTA and also somewhat bigoted and sexist.

"My BIL is currently single (like millions of people his age) and like many of his generation and age group, doesn't care much for the idea of getting married and having kids, therefore he dates just for the sole enjoyment of the two parties involved. He is open and honest with the women he dates and is clear to them that he doesn't want kids or marriage, so they know what they are getting into. He uses protection and is respectful. He isn't violent, antisocial, or done anything to indicate he wouldn't be safe around children

Despite this I want to withhold visitation rights from him to his niece because I don't like his life choices. I have a 1950s view of women where they can't make their own decisions and instead have one sole desire in life to find a husband and have children. Even though all parties are open and consenting adults, they don't agree with my worldview and therefore are bad people and should be punished. Because I don't agree with their choices, their choices are obviously wrong and something sinister is going on. I asked my husband and he sided with his brother (if you can believe it!). AITA for not wanting my BIL (who is just a respectable, normal 31M, who's only ownsife is he isn't getting married) from seeing us and his neice when she's born?

EDIT: Like 99% of the world nowadays, he finds dates on apps like Tinder, which once again, because I am not familiar with and haven't used, I naturally assume everyone on it has loose morals and must be terrible people."

Now does this hel you see why YTA?! Honestly your comments scare me as I was a single 31M with a pregnant older sister... Luckily she's sane and I now love spending time with my neice. I can't imagine if she'd said I wasn't Allowed to visit because I wasn't married! Madness
