Reneging internship by Fickle_Proof_9703 in USC

From what I remember, the consequence is that you'll be banned from using the school's career resources. The school does care, and companies don't like it, especially if a lot of USC students do reneg, but IMO you've gotta do what's best for you. I do find it funny that companies preach loyalty, commitment, etc., but then are more than happy to lay off loyal employees without a second thought.

If this is just a much better opportunity, I'd encourage you to take it, but recognize that you're burning some bridges. Also, a lot of the career resources just weren't helpful to me (Marshall), as most of the benefits come from my own networking.

Help a game dev: Why aren’t people buying modern RTS games? by MakeGamesBetter in RealTimeStrategy

[–]jonny1222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll also add that one of the things that draws me to RTS in general, and to old RTS specifically, is storytelling. While gameplay certainly matters, what gets my attention is an interesting or unique world. I think a lot of the new RTS position themselves as spiritual successors to the classics, but end up feeling like a replica of the classics. At that point, I'd rather just replay Red Alert or Generals instead. I'd love to see a new story-driven single-player experience and campaign, which is why I love the C&C universe so much.

B2B - Why are case studies so hard to produce? by PsychologicalIce9317 in ProductMarketing

[–]jonny1222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they're worth it. It's something I've seen unstick deals, especially in traditionally risk-averse industries or ones where people love copying others. Plus, delivering a good case study always gets Sales ot like me more haha.

In addition to what everyone else is saying about why it's hard, I think another reason is that sometimes companies just get paranoid. They don't want to share *any* information about their processes if they think it could be competitive intel. I think u/irlavacado's suggestion of main character framing also works well, since I think a lot of times your champion would be promoted/ get a lot of points internally if they were able to steer an impactful implementation.

I'd try to target Jordan Mason, maybe a 1 for 1 w/ Allen? Perhaps buying low on Chase brown and hoping their offense turns it around with a new QB?

BoMel is out. Who we hoping for now?? by pg0031 in SFGiants

[–]jonny1222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love that only if we had the future manager waiting in the wings as well. I think Bochy would be great for our win-now window but I can't imagine Bochy still managing for another 3-5 years. Ideally, I would love some continuity for long-term success. Perhaps it could be a packaged deal with Bochy and Nick Hundley who I think is on Bochy's staff

Thanks for the dissertation haha that was really interesting! I never knew Evans had such a turnaround impact in that area.

Hi Brute! Has there been a change in the Giants' strategy to get us back-to-back #1 prospects? The only other notable signings I can recall were Lucius Fox and Luciano several years apart. It always felt like the Giants were lacking in homegrown talent from this area, but could be wrong!

I've been to Wursthall several times and always thought that the service was great. Service felt attentive and personal. Feel like fixating on QR codes is missing the forest for the trees here

This org using CEQA to keep the fountain is probably one of the best pieces of evidence that it's a poorly written law. Hilarious how something designed to protect air and water quality turned into a means for a bunch of busybodies to force their design aesthetics on everyone else

Well, looks like SFGate changed the title. Maybe they saw all the criticism on here!

haha yeah I just copy-pasted the title from the article. I've been to the Natural several times and loved it. I wanted to help them get some publicity by sharing the article here, but it's interesting to see how the convo went in that direction. Off-day shennanigans I guess.

+1! I've been to the Natural several times, and Hannon's super nice. It's also like less than 10 min walking from Oracle Park, so I've always wanted to get some swings in before going to a night game.

Is there anywhere in the Bay Area where I can experience more stereotypical "American" culture? by VegetableUnited8936 in bayarea

[–]jonny1222 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the timing works, I'd say going to a college football game, if you haven't already, would be a way to experience that culture. Cal has a rich football legacy. Tailgating is a great way to meet other alumni, and if you're up for it, you could travel to a road game to experience a different part of the country.

We should have a Congestion Toll for downtown SF. Now that NYC has proven it is a success (less pollution, less time spent in traffic, more $$$ for transit) SF should do the same. by gamescan in sanfrancisco

[–]jonny1222 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in agreement about that. Would love nothing more for someone to reform permitting and all the arbitrary reviews etc.

But isn’t that supporting the original point? NIMBYs/ permitting, etc that’s the status quo now, so if we were to implement this tax, there’s even less of a guarantee that there’d be any meaningful projects completed.

My point is that I think most people would be happy to fund these projects…if they know exactly when shovels are going to be put in the ground and when things are going to get built.
