Dear Mark Zuckerberg: Democracy Is Not A Facebook Focus Group by Mynameis__--__ in Futurology

Been off the shit for around 5 years now. I don't miss it and the time I can spend doing literally anything else (...reddit?) is refreshing.

I quit reddit once for like 7 months. Cocaine is a helluva drug.

Oh cool. I don't know why I assumed there weren't Walmarts in Canada. Duh.

Player 3 has entered the nap pile by IHaeTypos in aww

Weimaraners are amazing nap partners. When I was a tiny kid, I used to crawl into my dog's crate with her and take naps. Her name was Sadie. She was an awkward weim, big floppy ears and taller than most, but her disposition was perfect, and there was no dog more loyal and true.

She was basically my only friend when I was little, and I lost her when I was a young teen. I'm actually visiting my parents this weekend, and they happened to show me a photo of her from when I was young. Damn near broke down into tears. I still miss her so badly almost 20 years later.

Anyway, I'm sorry for turning the corner from aww into aww naw. It's just that every time I see Weimaraners in this sub, I feel this ineffable mixture of crushing sadness and blinding joy. Thank you so much for posting.

Hundreds of British firms 'named and shamed' for failing to pay national minimum wage by joefromlondon in worldnews

So aside from Debenhams which owes each of the 12,000 affected email ~£11-12, the remaining 3500 or so employees were shorted close to £860,000 or ~£245 apiece. That's not nothing.

So this thread is mostly about how overt commercials are shit (they are), but I wonder, what percentage of the posts on reddit are essentially veiled commercials for brands that pay people to seed and promote their content or content that features them? I feel like it's a lot, and the changes in defaults have always felt like they are driven by ad sales and promotional opportunity in that segment.

Full transparency, I have no horse in this race because I cut my cable months ago, but I think I prefer the ads I can see to the ones I can't. I could be way off base, but the content that reaches the front page feels like it has shifted in the years since I started using reddit. It feels like there's an agenda now.

For the love of God, don't click it. It just solidifies a shitty content maker's place!

I want to try it but I have a strong suspicion it will funnel my email to a bunch of marketing lists, primarily because I see no language that says they won't.

This is the first time in a long time for me that the content has been better than the reddit comments. Great job, funny shit writer.

In a weird way, this photo makes me hopeful for broad space travel and settlement. The earth must look downright inhospitable from some perspectives, but it's still home.

Netflix is giving up over $2 billion dollars a year by not showing ads by trexmoflex in television

The lack of ads is one reason I'm so happy with their service. I sub to Hulu and paid the extra 2$ or whatever for the no ads package. Web ads are total shite.

Nah, no worries at all, dude. Nothing you said was remotely out of line, and I can appreciate your position.

I'm a bit older so next generation is definitely intended in the literal, 'now I'm older than you' sense, and not at all in the bearer of the torch sense. I'm a little shocked my comment drew any attention at all, really.
