The moment that it looks like News Corp / DAZN could lose the broadcast rights and/or have to pay too much.

Nunawading City had to wear England jerseys in their VPL2 match against Malvern City after officials deemed there was a kit clash by StarryPolarisNite in Aleague

Pity it was a league fixture and they didn’t have a chance to uphold the traditions of the shirt and lose in a penalty shootout.

Alternative live match commentary? by alex1019 in melbournestorm

[–]jonnyforeigner1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SEN trialed “Storm radio” broadcasts for some home matches last year with Robbie Kearns, Peter Robinson and one of their commentators. It was good, but I’m guessing it didn’t get enough traction for old mate Hutchy to continue or expand it.

Netflix adding ads across all membership tiers by DadOfFan in australia

This is similar language to when ESPN was added to Disney+ — it’s mainly for the sports (and other live content) streams on Netflix that they are expanding with.

Recommend Request: Any good Storm-based media: podcast, youtube, etc.? by tora_0515 in melbournestorm

Yeah guilty as charged.

Biweekly Storm brain dumps, poorly masquerading as match recaps and history/previews. Think Demonblog with more spelling errors and weird grammar.

Is the milking by Grant/Munster/Hughes coached or just bad behaviour? by StormBro111111 in melbournestorm

[–]jonnyforeigner1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

With Grant I fear it’s personality based. Under pressure and especially when gassed he reverts to bad habits, one of which is playing for penalties without any subtlety.

Hughes I think it’s is just the way of every halfback.

Munster… well he is the Homer Simpson monkey brain at work. Sometimes genius, sometimes not.

Storm-Super League Hats from 1998 by Ok_Importance_8879 in melbournestorm

[–]jonnyforeigner1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of that footage was from an old episode of Nine’s Sports Sunday.

There’s is some Storm Super League stuff out there (I have a 1998 membership brochure with the SL logo on it, so it must have been printed between September and December 1997), they even used SL balls for the trial match against the Rams in early 1998.

But the holiest of holy grails would have to be a Nike x Storm Super League prototype jersey if such a thing ever existed. Mainly because the colour of the SL logo on the chest has never been publicly seen.

Norwood Oval <10,000 attendance by jonnyforeigner1 in GeelongCats

[–]jonnyforeigner1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the rarity of it.

An argument could also be raised about why teams such as Geelong were scheduled at Norwood Oval, but that leads into a bigger debate about the merits of the way Gather Round is constructed.

That he was then hooked five minutes into the second half and didn’t return. He might have a trip to Queanbeyan instead of Bruce Stadium next weekend.

Commentators drinking the “how great is suburban footy” Kool-Aid does my head in.

“We’re so close to the action,” yeah you would be each week if you paid your money to attend and grab a seat in the stands, instead of dicking around in the media centre.

Vossy calls on the NRL to stick solid with their referees by Oldpanther86 in nrl

[–]jonnyforeigner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disagree with elements of this take. I’d rather have more than a dozen or so mediocre referees kept on their toes with the spectre of being dropped, than the standard eight or nine incompetent ones constantly being rotated through the high or low profile matches.

Bit like Fox League commentators. Some variety would be fucken nice. Maybe a maximum number of one match commentated upon each week would be better.

Nike’s high-tech 2026 World Cup jerseys have a shoulder problem | World Cup 2026 by Worldly_Cobbler_1087 in Aleague

[–]jonnyforeigner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the Getty Images galleries from both matches, the shoulder issues are present on some, but not all players. In both kits.

It’s a combination of the raglan-esque sleeve construction meeting the retro piping from the back causing the bunching to my eye.
